Crying before sleep, am I missing something??
« on: July 04, 2009, 18:10:24 pm »
Hi,
My lo is 9 months and has alwaya fro around 4 months been a good napper.  I could put him down in his cot and he would drift off but now it is totally the opposite.  He cries and cries and cries and it doesn't matter if I'm in the room or not.

I try to pat his back and shush him telling him it's ok because if I pick him up he arches his back so I put him down.  He goes to nursery 4 days per week and they sleep in their prams but he's been going for 3 months so don't think it's this. PLEASE HELP, I'm starting to dread these times of day, badly.

what does his day look like?

are you sure he is tired enough to go to sleep? maybe he is ready for an increase in A time?

Hi,
His morning A times have never been v long, tbh, it took me months to get him up to 2hrs A time in the AM!  I'm thinking when he is at nursery, he doesn't go down until a little later and I've started to apply this at home but I'm thinking that at home he can't stay awake as long????  Maybe he's too tired??? What's your wind down routine like?

6.30am bottle 6oz
8am porridge/cereal
9-9.30ish sleep for 1-1.5 hours

11am bottle 4-5oz
12 lunch
1-1.30ish sleep for 1 hour roughly

3pm bottle 4-5 oz
4.15pm tea

6.30-7.00pm bottle and bed

I definately think he may be ready for some increase in A time, maybe try to increase the first A time to 3.25-3.5hrs--which may lessen the A time before bed a bit.

Hi

It he teething at all?  My LO went from going to sleep independently for naps to crying and crying EVERY time for 4 weeks until her tooth broke through and I had to pat her until she was fully asleep.  It never affected night sleep though strangely.

Also, I would agree with PP.  When DD needs more A time she also acts like that (crying before naps), so I think maybe he is ready for more A time too.

HTH  :)

sounds like SA then, so you could do wi/wo or gradual withdrawal...

I did go throught this around 10months or so and ended up doing wi-sayng go to sleep and leave---and I know that if I picked him up or touched him etc--he would put up a bigger fight and it would take alot longer and more wi/wo.
