Sounds like he's doing well. And if only took 1oz of formula after BF, then doesn't seem like famished.

Babes do seem to find it easier to feed from the bottle, and because it's easy, they may take on more because it's quick and simply and there, rather than desparately hungry. Fair enough really, I can't blame them!

One thing you can do is to make sure you've got teats with a slow flow, so your LO still has to work a little harder and 'nurse'. There are loads of different types and I know there's ones that are meant to be more 'natural'. Can't for the life of me think of the name though... Dr something?

Hopefully there's Mamas out there who can chime in here - and maybe know the name that I just can't think of!!

Let us know how you get on?

I'm still going through this... I have to wait until lo is pretty hungry but not wait too long and take him up into my room to lie on the bed with me and nurse if I want a really good nurse during the day so he won't wake hungry at night. If I'm out, as long as I can find a quiet place I can sometimes put a blanket over his head. He likes to tear it off but if he's hungry he'll eat and the blanket helps tune everything else out. Sometimes it helps if I stimulate a let down before he gets on because he'll get impatient and not want to wait for it. Nursing necklaces or letting him look at my ring helps a lot sometimes. You can try when they're sleepy and just waking up or skin to skin contact. Nurse in a very familiar place without toys etc around. It also helps to just show him my breast and let him try to nurse rather than putting him to my breast. He thinks it's his idea or something. Haha!

For going back to work... it might only take you 10 minutes to pump if you'd like to continue. I worked as a nurse on a very busy medical floor and just took my lunch in 2 small breaks and pumped. I had a stash in the freezer before I returned to work too so that always helped because there were definitely days I didn't get to pump. Had to invest in good breast pads. Still, if you don't want to use up breaks at work to pump or can't take them there are a lot of people that can nurse when they are at home, in the morning and evening and use formula during the day while gone. Just fyi if you don't want to stop bf.

Hi from Spain!

I'm very interested in this post, because the last few days my 13 weeks old girl is very distracted when breastfeeding. Today she is 3 months old. Maybe she is too young to be so distracted? Since she was born, she loves to observe EVERYTHING.

She goes to sleep at 9:00 pm, and I feed her sleepy at 23:30 pm, but usually doesn't eat very much. She still wakes up every night at 2:30 - 3:30 am and at 6:00 - 7:00, and takes from one or both breasts.

I thought changing from 3 to 3,5 hour routine, in order to see if she takes more food. And I really want her to sleep more hours at night!!

What do you suggest?
