What age did your lo drop to 2 bottles?
« on: August 28, 2009, 19:29:56 pm »
Hi everyone

I think my 9 1/2 month old DD is getting closer to dropping her second bottle.  I normally give it to her before her pm nap.  She used to drink 8oz, but now it has decreased between 5-6ozs.  She takes close to 7ozs in the morning then 9ozs before bedtime.
What is the majority age that los drop from 3 bottles to 2?
When and if I drop this bottle soon, will she increase her milk intake in her other bottles? She does eat a slice of cheese a day and yogurt.  Also, what type of snacks do I replace this bottle with? Should it be dairy.

thanks in advance

Hi not sure about the typical age los drop to 2 bottle but dd is almost 14 months and is still on 3 bottles a day. She has am bottle, after her morning nap (around 11.30) and at bed time. She droped her pm botle a good few months ago. As far as I know ur lo will let u know when she/he is ready to drop a bottle by refusing to take it or reducing the ammount of milk they take.
Personally I would think 9 and a half months is a bit too early to drop to 2 bottles as up to a year formula/breas milk are the main sources of nutrition, and I would be worried if she's getting anough. How is she with solids?

Hope this helps

My DS has dropped this at 11 months old  :o and he only drinks 5oz in the morning and 7oz before bed.

He isn't your 'typical' baby though - I think he is just sick of throwing milk up after fluxing for 12 months.

I do still offer a pm bottle though of 4oz. Sometimes he has it, sometimes not.

Both of mine dropped it around 10mo.
I make sure Alex has a drink of water instead, sometimes he has a snack, sometimes not, depends how much he's eaten at lunchtime.

DD dropped down from 4 bottles to 2 when she hit 11 months - happened in one weekend, just refused daytime bottles.  She still gets bottles a.m. (usually 7-8 oz) and p.m. (4 oz if we're lucky!).  I have increased her dairy during the day - she gets cheese (sliced or cream) and full-fat yogurt a few times a day to compensate.

Since she is not a big solid eater-can barely get dinner in her-I worry about her milk intake. It looks like we are heading closer to dropping that bottle in the next month. I have tried to offer her cold milk in her sippy and she will only take a few sips. ???
Thanks for the info.

If your lo is not a big solid eater, I would be inclined to keep that bottle for as long as possible.

My DD dropped to 2 bottles after she turned one, but my DS had dropped his by 10 months so all lo's are different.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Paula: That is what I was thinking. I will offer it until she refuses it.  I sometimes, offer her some more milk during breakfast-the most she will take is an ounce.

I will keep you posted
