possible SA at naptime. Advice on settling lo please.
« on: September 03, 2009, 17:14:28 pm »
HI,
My lo is 10 months and always been a poor napper but the last few days have been hell. He literally will not go down for a nap and it is not due to A times as we have played around with them (with great advice from Becky!)
I have read up on WIWO and my problem is that once DS has started to cry he just gets inconsolable in a short apace of time to the point that he kind of loses it! Basically if I have to get involved and go back into the room he cranks up about three gears and I just know that until he comes out of the room he will be in a complete state.
I need a plan of action as I have had to take him in the car and buggy for the last 3 days for all naps and am shattered....
ssh pat never worked for us either so I guess I am wondering how to deal with my super touchy/spirited baby where sleep is concerned. Weirdly enough going down at night so far has been fine.
Help please...I cannot bear the crying but need to do something about this situation.
thanks
becky x

Hi Becky,

I always had the reverse problem with Colin - he was a great napper but nights were horrid! As he is spirited sleep was always a big challenge as is normal with spiriteds and touchies. I wouldn't recommend WI/WO as it's really for older babies anyway but sometimes, like PU/PD, it backfires for those temperments.

What do you do at nighttime? Anything different?

Traditional sshhhh/pat didn't work for us either. The patting made Colin mad and wound him up, plus he had reflux. We did a shhh/hold instead.  One arm laying across his chest and the other across his knees. It worked great and we did that for a looooong time!

thanks for the advice. I tried a ssh hold and it did work eventually :)
