any suggestions
« on: October 16, 2009, 15:21:37 pm »
My amost 9 month old (in 4 days) has for the last month been having short naps.  Her am nap has progressively gotten shorter from 1 1/2 hours to only 1 hour.  It seems every few days she has cut a couple of minutes off and we went from 1 1/2 to 1.25 to 1 hour in a matter of a few weeks.  Her pm nap went form 1 1/2 hours to 30 minutes.  I tried to extend it with pu/pd but to no avail.  So our next plan was to move A times from 2 1/2 hours to a bit longer seeing how she was 8 months and possibly needed more A time.
So now she is up for 3 hours 15 minutes before her first nap.  (If I put her down earlier or later than this she still naps the same length of time.)  After the first nap we do 3 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes A time and one day I got 45 minutes out of her but we are still having 30 minutes naps from which she wakes crying and cranky.
So I feel like I've been playing around with A times and I feel somewhat lost.
Sleeps GREAT at night.  Please if you have suggestions they are welcome.

I had exactly the same thing at around 9 months and all it took was a little A time tweaking.

Please post your EASY so that we can take a look at what might be going on.

Hugs

thanks Nadene,
Our day looks somewhat like this:
7am - wake and bottle
8am breakfast
10:15 nap
wake 11:20 or 11:25 (has gotten progressively shorter)
11:30 bottle
1:00 lunch
3:00ish nap
3:30 wake and bottle
6:00 dinner
7:00 bed

This is typically what a day looks like.  Sometimes she will wake early and then we put to bed early but generally this is what happens.
I've been thinking maybe she just needs more A time but then when she wakes from a nap crying I think OT.  Just a bit confused.
Thanks for the help

Sorry I've taken so long to respond. Had a busy weekend and a few days of bedtime struggles and a few nights of nw. So just been a bit of a crazy time.

So your lo's morning A time is 3h15 and you're getting a 1hr - 1hr10 nap out of her. I would try increasing this to around 3h30, be consistent for a few days. Her afternoon A time is around 3h40 min and she's giving you 1/2 hour. Tricky ... could be OT due to only having a 1hr morning nap? I know my lo can only handle 3hrs A time on an hour sleep. Then her next A time is also 3.5hrs on 1/2 hour sleep. I would say that's WAY too long and you may need to aim for an early bed time, say 6 / 6:30 latest.

My DD went to 3.5hrs A time at 9ish months, with 1.5hr naps. Crossing fingers that this works for you. I hope some other ladies hop along here to give some more input!!

Good luck and let me know how you're doing.
Nadene
