5 mth old big baby STILL not sleeping thru! Ugh!!
« on: October 29, 2009, 19:10:38 pm »
Hi everyone,

I really hope some of you can help me on this as even the 'happy pills' are not getting me through this!!

I have a lovely great natured 5 month old who is fantastic! But for some reason he has stopped sleeping through from DF till morning.

When he was just under 3 months old and we were on holiday he slept though and we thought we had turned a corner, but from 3months till now he wakes up at different times of the night.

He is on a 4hour plan, but today was completely out and forced me into admitting I need BW help! Here is a typical schedule:

2-4am - can wake any time, try with paci, then with water, then give in to half strength milk!
6.30am - wakes
7am - milk (does not normally take much - presumably from the night feed i guess)
8.30 - nap for 40 mins on a bad day but 1.5hrs on a good day
11am - bottle
12pm - baby rice now or at 2pm (either before or after next nap)
12.30 - nap for 40 mins on a bad day but 1.5hrs on a good day
3pm - bottle
5pm - baby rice
6.30 - bottle
10.15 - DF bottle (3oz only)

at each bottle he generally takes 6-7oz apart from the morning one.

Any suggestions please please please :)

Jo x

To be honest hun, at 5 months to have only one night feed as well as the dreamfeed is REALLY good. There are loads of mums who would kill for nights like that. If a paci doesn't settle him, it does sound like he's hungry, so at this point I would just feed him quickly and get back to bed as quickly as you can. In a couple of months he'll be taking more solids and might be less hungry by then.

Good daytime naps definitely helps with good night sleep. But a single waking in the early hours of the morning probably wouldn't be put down to overtiredness. Overtiredness would tend to be multiple wakings in the early part of the night and/or early waking in the morning.
