Dairy?
« on: November 03, 2009, 19:18:37 pm »
Hiya,

My son Nathan is 6.5 months old, and is doing great with solids. I have heard very conflicting advice on when to start non-liquid dairy, and was wondering when ya'll started things like yogurt and cheese. Also, can I offer just the full fat, plain varieties? I am not eager to start him on low fat, flavoured, super-processed, or artificially sweetened stuff.  :P

I do know that milk should not be offered until 12 months or so.

Thanks,
Amy.

in the UK dairy is ok from 6 months so from then my lo's had yoghurt, cheese/cheese sauce, etc.  Full fat is recommended as they need the fat/calories for growth.

Yogurt, cheese or cream/milk in cooking are fine from 6 mos.  Make sure to read the labels when offering yogurt.  Many of them contains too much sugar or additives that are not very beneficial to infants.  Plain full fat yogurt is fine.  If you want to add some flavor, then add some of fruit purees or mashed fruits.
