How long Should A be for 3 1/2 Month Old?
« on: November 15, 2009, 04:36:02 am »
Hi, my DD is 3 1/2 months old and she doesn't stay up long for her A.  She is tired by the time she's up 45 min or sometimes even earlier than that.  So, I put her down and she does 1 hour to 1 1/2 and then wakes up.  She is on a 3 EASY.  Sometimes she wakes up 30 to 1 hour before her next feeding.  And, if I pick her up from her crib and let her stay up then, she gets overtired the next go round and the same thing happens over and over again.  Sometimes she wakes up at the 45 minute mark and I do the sh/pat/rub and than I get another hour but very fitful.  I have noticed in the last few days that she stays in her crib awake but grumbles quite a bit.  She does not cry but just makes grumbling noises.  I don't go in her room for this unless she cries.  Is that okay????  Should I be switching her to a 4 EASY because it seems like her naps are getting shorter.  Also, with her getting so tired quickly with her A time, how do adjust for that?  Do I train to keep her up for 1.3 hours before S?

What is the typical A time for infants at this stage?

hi there, check this out: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64158.msg476652#msg476652

if she isnt getting enough A time she wont be sleepy enough for a decent two hour nap thats why she wakes up early and wont go back to sleep, if you keep her up longer then she will be sufficiently tired for a longer nap :)

That really makes sense.  However, if she is overtired, wouldn't she also wake up earlier?  I always thought that was the case so, I was putting her down as soon as I see the first yawn.

Yes if she's OT she will most likely only do a 30 min nap, 45 min naps are generally UT naps and 30 min naps are OT naps

Thanks so much for the run down on A times (ie UT and OT nap times). Yes, my LO seems to be UT then because she does wake up at the 45 min mark these days.  I haven't been giving her enough A time that is appropriate for her age.
