Help New to ssh/pat and BW
« on: November 09, 2009, 04:56:04 am »
I have a 10 week old DS and up until yesterday, I have followed the schedule of Babywise minus the CIO (which I did a couple of times and decided it was not for me!!)  Here are my questions if anyone can help!  My DS goes down for naps/bedtime very well.  I always worked on putting him in the crib sleepy but awake.  I do give him a paci in the beginning to soothe him but take it out before he falls asleep.  I know I should break him of the habit but one thing at a time.  He sometimes wakes us early from naps (which is when I tried to let him CIO a couple of times with NO success)  So yesterday after reading I tried the ssh/pat and EVERY time he went back to sleep.  Here is my main question:  I only did it for a couple minutes and didn't stay in the room and he went back down just fine.  Should I stay in until he is in deep sleep?

At night I just started the Dreamfeed and sometimes it extends his night feeding until 4 am.  When I don't do it he wakes at 2ish.  I don't think I can give up his 4am feed because he eats alot so I know he is hungry.  So do I do the ssh/pat at night when he wakes when he is not supposed to feed (which he almost NEVER does unless he has gas)?

Any tips or info would be soooo helpful.  I am so excited about this method because the thougt of CIO literally made me sick to my stomach.  And I love the EASY schedule soooo much more than Babywise becuase it allows a little flexibility :)

I think you want to be in the room only long enough to help him back down, but not longer than that so it does not become a prop, so I think you did fine.

You could do the sh/pt at night, but it sounds like that really isn't much of an issue for you?

I actually did the same thing as you.  I started with Babywise, and the first and only time I ever did CIO I thought how on earth could that be natural!!  And that is when I find BW!  Good luck!

at this age i think night feeds are pretty normal so i wouldnt worry too much about the 4am feed, we did that until 4 months old. looks like you are doing well though and are on the right track!! fantastic!
