Naps at Daycare
« on: November 22, 2009, 17:12:24 pm »
I need advice on how to get my LO to sleep at daycare. He is 5 months and really good with EASY at home (he sleeps for 10 hours at night and takes 3 naps during the day including his CN which can sometimes be a full nap). The problem is that when he is at daycare he wakes up from his nap after 40 minutes and can't get himself back to sleep because there is so much going on. I have spent some time at the daycare to try and observe the problem and try the shhh pat technique to get him back to sleep. So far I have not been successful. I have noticed that he looks around a lot more at daycare and have turned him in the crib so all he sees are the other cribs. Daycare won't let me put crib bumpers on his crib or put anything on the outside of the crib to block off visual stimulation so I don't know what else I can do about that. I have a white noise maker in his crib to try and block out the noise but that really doesn't seem to work at all against the toys, cries, and talking. He comes home so tired that he sleeps all evening and sometimes I even have to wake him for dinner.

I am about to start looking for a new daycare that has the cribs in a separate room but wanted to see if anyone had any advice first because I really like his current daycare.

hmmm, that's a tough one, I don't think Spencer would sleep at daycare at all if the playpens were out in the main room. Just having the nightlight on in the room sometimes kept her up! How often does he go to daycare?  It took Spencer about 6 months to totally adjust to it and start taking decent naps there, going 3 days a week, whereas my oldest was good right from the start. Would the daycare consider some type of screen? or is it that they want to be able to see all the babies?

The daycare said they can't use a screen because of the licensing department's rules - aparently they need to be able to see all the babies. Gavin goes to daycare 1/2 days, 5 days a week and has been going for 2 months now. We can work around it when it is half days by letting him have a longer CN but we are considering switching to full time daycare which is why I am concerned.
