I had thrush for several months as the doctor did not treat it correctly so unfortunately it became really resistant to treatment and became quite severe. I was in so much pain in the end (far, far worse than when I had mastitis) that I was practically screaming out when feeding Ben....horrid. SO, I'm not trying to scare you (
!) just wanted to say make sure you really do everything you can to get rid of it quickly. I think we had it worse because Ben had to take antibiotics for something, and so did I for mastitis, and then of course the thrush gets worse
.
Try buying some super-strong friendly bacteria capsules for you to take, cut down on sugar, and I even put the friendly bacteria stuff on my nipples at nightime(
) as well as white vinegar after every feeding before I put the thrush cream on.....ooh, the glamour of breastfeeding!! I also boiled all of my feeding bras regularly, changed my breastpads really frequently, and anything else that came into contact with me (towels etc).
Also, if your lo has a dummy/paci make sure it is sterilised in Milton regularly (kills viruses unlike steam sterilising) to make sure that any thrush is killed. Make sure that you get something to treat the inside of her mouth otherwise you might just end up reinfecting each other (which is what happened to Ben and I despite all my safety-measures!
).
Anyway, I haven't read the link which Canwi posted, so it's probably got all of this on it! Just wanted to say some of the things which helped us. The KellyMom website has got some excellent advice on it too.
hope yours just gets sorted quickly though!
