Hi again,

We've done that in the past with success, but this time it seems different.  I know that he is going to be hungry by the amount he's consumed during the day.  I always try to resettle him without a bottle first, but wide awake and screaming usually means FEED ME OR ELSE!!  :)  He seems to really be struggling with his teeth right now.  I can see #6 making it's way through, but can't quite feel it yet.  Today he's been miserable so I've kept the pain meds going.  Seems to be helping a bit.    I'll keep you posted on how tonight goes.

Thanks!

ah yes teething seems to be a nightmare. i suspect hes learnt to feel hungry in the night, thats why i suggested the patting to get through it, we pat for up to and over an hour at night if we need to, we know hes not hungry, he waits till breakfast (unless its been two hours hes been up then anyone is bound to be hungry after being awake for two hours in teh night)
at this age he can definately go through the night without a feed, theres really no need to feed them in the night unless its a growth spurt and even then you try to top them up the next day. I think 15oz in a day is fine especially with solids but if you think its an issue then i would suggest going to the bottlefeeding boards, they will have more info

GREAT NEWS!!!!  DS slept through the night last night!!!  A few wake ups, but none that required re-settling.  I can now feel the tooth, it's finally popped out.  Poor boy does not handle teeth well - certainly not as well as his sister did.  Eating much better today, so hoping for 2 nights in a row.  Will keep you posted.

Thanks!!

Unbelievable!  All hard work out the window.  DS is sick again.  2 sleepless nights in a row.  I'm so tired I can barely stand it!!  Think tooth #7 is working it's way out, too.  He's fine when he's up, but screams bloody murder when we put him down in bed.

DD has been sick for over a week, so we've had some tougher nights with her, too.

Please someone tell me that this is just a phase and that he's not just a bad sleeper???  He was great from months 2.5 - 6.  The last 3 months have just sucked!!

Bottles are totally all over the place again.  He's not feeding well at all during the day and is now a bit constipated.  I'm lucky if I get 16oz in per day.  Should I bring back the df?  That way I know I can get another 4 - 6 oz in him.  Or, when he's better, should I just stick to the 4 feeds per day and wait for him to adjust (with a few NW and night feeds as needed?)

WHY WAS IT SO MUCH EASIER WITH DD#1????????????  Must be someone's way of telling me that 2 kids is all that I can handle :)

oh dear, im so sorry, illness is such a pain. to be honest i would just ride out the illness, do whatever you can do and just focus on getting everyone better then get back on track when you feel you are all able to. I know its hard, I hate the effect illness has too. I wouldnt bring the DF back in, we have had illness after dropping the DF and it makes no difference, consider the DF ancient history now. as for 16oz just let him take that much, i know when im sick i cant be bothered eating much, just try getting water into him as much as possible, that will be the best way to flush out the sickness. He will catch up on eating eventually.

as for the tooth do you elevate teh mattress? when they lie down the pain radiates to their ears so having the mattress elevated helps ease the pain.

Thank you for all the support. Although the days have been ok, the past two nights have been awful. I think he may have a virus that causes sores on the mouth. Really, really hoping tonight is better!  Did a df, but mainly because he only had about 9 oz today, and I needed to get some advil in him without him waking up. Hope that doesn't set us back too far. I like the idea of elevating the mattress, but ds moves around so much, I'm sure i'd find him crumpled at the bottom!  How do you avoid this?  Thanks again, and please send us sleep vibes!

oh sleepy vibes are on their way!!! as for not finding him crumpled at the bottom, you cant, they just get there :) Caleb does the same, i dont elevate the mattress much, perhaps just put a phone book under the mattress so its only slightly elevated. I just check on him before i go to bed and move him back (if hes in a deep sleep he doesnt wake) otherwise i just leave him, he will move around on his own anyway :)
