Hi,
DS is 8 months next week and is a textbook baby (except for when it comes to solids!). He is VERY slow going with solids. He eats his puree, but only ones that have apples in it (straight up or mixed with a small amount of another fruit). He will only take a few spoons of yams or squash before flinging it around. He won't let us spoon feed him and prefers to feed himself, so we load up the spoon and hand it to him.
With finger foods, we have given him toast, French toast (aka eggy bread), roasted yam wedges, steamed broccoli, steamed baby carrots, cheerios, firm tofu, strips of chicken breast, grapes, and baby mum-mums. Of all of the above, only the plain toast, cheerios, and baby mum-mums have been eaten --the rest ends up on the floor after being squashed. He didn't even try the broccoli, tofu, or chicken.
Since we've been met with limited success, I've started to get a little disheartened by all the wasted food , time, and effort and more than a little worried about DS getting enough iron in his diet and the fact that protein hasn't entered the equation yet. Thus the rut as I've been going back to the standby of applesauce with rice cereal and a bit of dry toast for almost each meal.
Help! How do I get out of this rut? Should I be offering him the same thing for each meal for a few days so he gets used to eating whatever it is we are serving him before introducing something else? When it comes to everything else, DS is pretty open to new things, but when it comes to solids, he seems quite particular about what he wants to try.
Does this mean DS is not ready for BLW and I should carry on with purees?
