yogurt

I am trying to introduce yogurt by my lo one is not interested. I think it is the taste of the plain yogurt.  Any suggestions as to what to add in to make it yummy for a one year old.

What about adding fruit puree? Mashed banana goes well in yoghurt. If you have only tried ordinary yoghurt you could try greek yoghurt as it is creamier and not quite as sharp - DD loves this plain!

Plain yoghurt is such a strong taste, I think it is unusual to find a lo who does take to it.  You could try mixing it with fruit purees, but neither of mine would take it.  If you want your lo to take yoghurt, you are probably better buying children's flavoured yoghurts - if you are worried about the sugar (which you don't need to be as part of a varied diet) you can check the labels for the ones that have the least.  I think some of the organic yoghurts have slightly (but only slightly) lower sugar levels that the others - beware, though, the ones with TV characters tend to have much higher sugar levels.

I cut the sugar in half by mixing plain yogurt with a regular flavoured yogurt...still getting the sugar of a regular yogurt but not quite as bad.

thanks i had thought about the puree, but then wasn't sure. I am just not brave to try some things on my own with out suggestions!  I did buy the children's stuff also thinking that might work better...the organic kind...will not touch it...But I think I will try the puree with it!  Obviously, I would want to adventually add fruit chunks which this seems like a natural transition.

thanks!

I don't know where you're located but if you can find Astro in your part of the world, it might be worth a shot. They make a balkan style yogurt that has no artificial flavours, colours, preservatives, or gelatin and it's naturally sweetened. My LO isn't on solids yet, so I can't say from experience that kids like it, but it's my favourite :)

My LO loves plain yogurt!  And other weird tasting foods like sardines!  I usually mix it with pureed fruit unless he is having yogourt for dipping.  To make the puree we use the most, we soak prunes and then blend them in the blender WITH enough water to cover the soaked prunes.  We use the water from the soak.  It doesn't really freeze so we just put it in the freezer in a zipper bag.  I take a little out and microwave it for 10 seconds and serve it with some plain yogurt.  We just tried dried apricots too but mixed them with unsweetened apple sauce.  He has this every day for his morning snack!  Opens up like a little bird!
Plain yogurt has natural good bateria.  I don't know about the "baby" yogurts and they really are quite sweet.

My DD loves yogurt too.  I buy a full fat (8.5% mf) vanilla flavoured yogurt and then put a little apple fruit cup puree in it (we buy either store brand or Motts apple treats - she likes apple/blueberry and apple/peach/mango the best - usually find them in the pudding aisle with the tinned fruit).  She flatly refuses to touch plain yogurt, just too tart for her even with fruit puree blended in.

Again, the purees are great.  That was DS's staple dinner for several months.  Banana, strawberry, raspberry, peach, apricot...if it was a fruit, I pureed it and mixed it in! :)
