Couldn't put himself back to sleep between naps
« on: January 09, 2010, 22:39:47 pm »
My LO is 10 weeks old and the last few days, he couldn't go past 45 min naps without patting. He used to be able to do the 1.5-2hr naps by himself so I don't know what happened. He can go to sleep on his own for a while now. I normally start the wind down routine 15-20 min before S time (at 1hr of A) although the first yawn starts 40min after he wakes up. Does anyone have any ideas?

Maybe he's ready for just a wee bit more A? At 10 weeks most can manage 1hr 15-20 mins.

I normally put him down on the crib after being awake for ~1hr5min which gives him ~15min to fall asleep although usually, he closes his eyes within 5-10min after I put him down so that makes his S time ~1hr 10-1hr15min. Should I keep him up a little bit longer even if he starts yawning after only being awake for 40min? Also, sometimes, he doesn't go straight to sleep right away. He'll close his eyes within 5min of putting him down and then 5-10min later, he will open them or do a bit of mantra crying so sometimes, I don't think he goes to sleep right away.

You could try adding 5 mins and see what happens - keep it very low key. If he then gives you an OT nap you can just go back to your old timings.
