28 month old ready to give up napping?
« on: January 11, 2010, 19:38:40 pm »
DS has been skipping naps more often than not for the last week.  Is he ready to give up napping?  Here's his schedule.

7:45  breakfast
8:00  get ready for school
8:15  get on bus for school
11:15 home from school, snack
noonish  lunch
1:30  "naptime", mostly plays on his bed
3:00  up from nap, snack
6-6:30 dinner
7:30  bedtime routine, in bed by 8

If he naps, he's up until 9:30-10 at night.  Is he ready to give up napping, or is there something else I'm not seeing?

Well, I was going to suggest moving nap to 2 pm.  But if he's having trouble falling asleep, then I think you're sort of doomed, LOL.

You could try limiting nap to 1 hour and see if that changes the bedtime scenario.  You could even move nap to 2 and wake at 3 and see how that goes.  But I'm sort of dubious as to whether that will work.  Worth a try! but I wouldn't get *too* hopeful!  ;)

I should have mentioned that I'm limiting his nap to 45 minutes from when he falls asleep - if he does.  Sorry.

nice if he will just have quiet time in his room during that time though...you could keep it as a quiet time and nap if he wants to on those days where he is more active

My lo gave up her nap at 2 years sorry to say, she only would really sleep for an hour prior to this as was in nursery full time. She is now 3 and generally find if she does have a sleep because we have been in the car etc she will not fall asleep until later. This was pretty much the case from 2 1/2 onwards so rather than battle it we accepted it, fortunately she was never really that tired during the day so that was ok, easier than her taking ages to go to sleep at night.

Not sure if that really helps?!
