Baby Rice Inhibiting Iron Absorption?
« on: January 31, 2010, 08:50:08 am »
Hi
I weaned my LO at 4 months.  Now 6 months I visited the HV to discuss foods that I should introduce.  The HV told me not to use baby rice as it inhibits iron absorption? I can't really find any information on this though.  Does that mean that all rice inhibits iron absorption including ground rice, pudding rice etc etc?

Hmmm - not heard that one before! They usually tell you to give baby rice because it has iron in it! So sorry, can't advise! I suppose you could add a fruit with vit C to it because that helps the body to absorb iron from food :-\

Maybe there should be more worry about the arsenic levels in baby rice than anything to so with iron absorption!!:

I have not heard rice preventing iron absorption.  Does your HV have any recent research to this?
