Soaking Broccoli First?
« on: February 01, 2010, 15:49:04 pm »
I read online the other day that soaking broccoli before cooking it makes it less gassy. Does anyone know if this is true? Been wanting to try broccoli (or cauliflower) for my 8 month old but been scared cause he is prone to gas and don't want to make him uncomfortable. Thoughts?

Did they say for how long?  I sometimes leave my veggies in a veggie soak/spray (Nature Clean) for about 10 min or so and I don't notice a difference.  Do you soak it with something?

What I read said to soak in clear water or 30-60 minutes (longer is better).

Just trying to figure out what I can do to ease it for my 8 month old - or if i should wait longer to introduce? And are broccoli and cauliflower generally equally gassy or does one tend to be "worse"?

Both are gassy veggies.  I think it's more of an individual reaction as dh is reactive to cauliflower but dd & ds in only reactive to broccoli.  It doesn't hurt to soak it.
