suggestions on how to put a lo to bed earlier than 10.30am
« on: February 16, 2010, 02:01:24 am »
Hi There

i am speaking on behalf of a friend of mine who has a 4 month old lo and she has asked me for some advice on how to put her lo down to bed earlier. SHe is telling me that the earliest she can put her down is 10.30pm, she manages 12 hours sleep from 10.30pm but would like an earlier bedtime for her as its way too late. What could she do? if she tries to put her down earlier she just cries and resists and wants to stay up, then when its around 10ish she is tired and goes to sleep at that time. And then wakes up late in the morning. Even if she keeps her up during the day to tire her out she resists on an early bedtime.

any advice would be great just so i can put her in the right direction.

SHe is not on easy but she said she has 2 naps a day and a catnap.

thanks kirsten

I think first of all she should probably have her wake up earlier, if her LO likes a 12 hour night then she needs to move her wakeup time earlier so her bedtime is earlier as well, but do it gently, so the first morning wake her up half an hour earlier, and have her go to bed half an hour earlier, do this for a few days and then move it back another half an hour etc until she is at the time she wants it.
