What temperature is your LO's room?
« on: February 11, 2010, 15:05:33 pm »
DH and I always argue about the ideal temperature in our daughter's room.

She sleeps in her crib and although she starts the night off under her blanket, a couple of hours later, we usually find her curled up in the corner, sleeping on top of her blanket.  She's usually in cotton PJs.

So... I was wondering... what are doing for your LO?

DDs room is fairly warm while the heating is on, but the whole house gets quite cold at night, so she sleeps in PJ and sleeping bag. I use sleeping bag in summer too jus 1.0tog.

And for extra cold night I have fleece PJ for her. And on holidays or when its really warm,  use short sleeve and shorts PJs but still in sleeping bag

We put our LO in a long-sleeved vest, cotton PJs and a 2.5 tog Grobag/sleeping bag.  Then I usually creep in a put a blanket on him before I go to bed.  The thermostat is set for 18 at night, so his room might even be a bit colder on a cold night.  We also sometimes put him in thick fleece PJs then the grobag if it is really cold.

our bedrooms are cold. Heating is on until around 9pm and then comes on 4.30-6.30am but in the night it is pretty cold so he has quite a few layers!

Really?  A sleeping bag for a toddler?  Does your LO move around much at night?

I always assumed the sleeping bags were for newborns that really don't move at all.

Maybe all these EWs and NWs are linked to the fact that DD might be a little cold (I wish!!! Imagine if that were true... all this time, I could have just cranked up the heat and gotten 12 hours of sleep !!) :-)

Yeah u can get them up to the age of 36months from Gro Bag. They are wide enough for them to move their legs around, and now dd is very mobile she can even stand up with sleeping bag on.

I actually saw a post here somewhere saying that NW with their lo was due to the room being too cold at night! I know dd wakes up at night sometimes when its cold.

Spencer is almost 19 months and still in a sleeping bag! albeit a very thin one, she gets super hot easily so sleeps in a cotton onesie, cotton sleeper, light cotton bag, and has a comforter if she gets cold. We actually keep her room around 16 C and have done so even when she was a tiny baby. The rest of us are freezing our butts off, but she's comfy!

Hey Dairy Queen, I am pleased that you posted this thread as it has got me thinking about the temperature of my dd's room in our new house.  I have noticed with her recent NWs that her room was only 12 or 13 degrees in the middle of the night which is really low, so wonder if that might be the problem as well as her teething.  I have left on the heating all night (with the thermostat at 18 degrees) for the last 2 nights and she has woken after 6am both days.  Today at 6.40am which is practically a miracle!  It could all be a fluke but maybe the cold has been causing the NWs...Dd wears a sleeping bag and lots of layers but I think 12 degrees is still too cold for her.

twinmum1 - 12 degrees!  Wow.  That's really cool.  I like it at around 18, but DH insists that we crank it up to 22 given that DD just wears thin cotton PJs.
Maybe we should invest in a sleeping bag.  It may help us reduce our electricity bill :-)

I sewed the girls each two quilts together into sleeping bags as we prefer our house quite cool (17 or 18) at night and I think the girls do also. They were swaddled up to 8 months (different variations that included zippers and bunting bags), and they LOVE having a blanket on them although they are quite active while sleeping. They seem to sleep much better with it cool and bundled up than when it's warm and dressed lightly.
