Having to read 7 stories before they sleep?
« on: October 24, 2010, 23:49:00 pm »
hey!  I've got a great suggestion to the mommies out there who have to read a lot of stories to your toddler to get them to sleep.  Read along on CDs (or tapes).... it works brilliantly for Stan!

It started about a month a go.  Stan would say just one more and scream and cry when it was done for another story.  It got to the point where I was reading up to and sometimes more then 7 stories a night.  He would fall asleep about an hour later then his bedtime.  This of course made his mornings rather early and his days awful!  Anyway, I have a librarian living next door to me and when I told her my tale she mentioned that her son had done the same thing at about 3 years old and suggested this.

If you play the cd and leave the room they usually don't have the distraction of you reading AND THEN leaving so it cuts out a distraction which makes it easier to fall asleep without having to say night night again to mommy :)

Don't know if I've posted this in the wrong place but it helped us soooo much I had to let everyone know!  The first night I put the cd on stan listened and watched me go a little nervous but I didn't hear from him and when I checked on him about an hour later he was fast asleep and the cd had stopped on its own.  the second night Stan asked for the cd to play and waved "bye bye" to me... worked like a charm!

If you are having a crazy time with your LO it's worth a try for a night or two. :)

that's a good idea...but what if you set the limit and enforce it? we read 3 books and that's it. DS no longer requests more books. i would love to record myself reading a book though for the future when he no longer naps but i just want him to have a rest time.

tried that... when I limit it stanley screams in his room for an hour after the last story is read, waking the baby and getting himself all worked up thus giving us an awful day the next day.  We read lots of stories through the day so it more then makes up for it!  When stubborness is what you inherent from your parents it can make bedtime an awful fight...
