Early wakings for 25 mo
« on: February 14, 2010, 12:47:03 pm »
DS is 25 mo and has been waking between 5 and 6 for the past month. Initially, we thought it was discomfort with cold/cough waking him, then we realized he had a molar coming out. Now, sickness and teething seem to have passed and still waking. We have tried wi/wo, but he just screams until we go back in the room. If we stay sitting in the room, he sometimes stays in bed quietly (not sleeping) or insists on getting up to play. Anything before 6 a.m. is too early for him as he gets tired and cranky by mid-morning. Here is his routine:

Wake: 5:30ish (used to be 6:30-7)
Breakfast after sitting on potty and dressing.
Snack: 9
Lunch: 11:30
Nap: 12:30-2, sometimes 2:30
Snack: 2:30-3
Supper: 5:15
Bath: 6:30
Book and bed: 7

We wondered if later bedtime might be in order, but looking at toddler schedules, he seems to be in the norm in terms of sleep and he has always been on the side of more sleep then less.

Based on my own experience, it could be that the teething let some overtiredness creep in and he's not making it up. A couple of days of earlier naps and earlier bedtimes might help him catch up? We were on the same routine(including 5.30am start), but did a couple of days of nap at 11.30 or 12, bedtime at 6.30, and it helped get us back on track.

Thanks. Will try for earlier bedtime this week. Early waking again this morning and he is just not his usually happy self. I'll let you know how things go.
