Reverse feeding and what to do about it
« on: March 05, 2010, 22:27:43 pm »
As I talked about in the Dreamfeed/Cluster thread I have been trialling Dreamfeeding for over two weeks and have had heaps of trouble with it.  My little girl has not taken to it at all and she actually became more wakeful as a result.

The last three nights we have dropped the dreamfeed.  The first night she woke at 12:30 so we gave her a bottle (150ml)and she slept through till 6:30 - GREAT!  The second night she woke at 12:30ish, this time I resettled her and she slept for another hour before I fed her.  Last night she was terrible.  She woke at 12, got resettled, woke again at 1:30ish, was fed, woke again at 5am.  Yelled the house down so I had to refeed her (another 150ml) so my son and husband could get some sleep (and I was also hopeful she's sleep in).  She was up again at 6:30am and then it was just resettle, after resettle after resettle until I got her up at 7:30am.  I waited till 8:30 to give her her bottle but she only took 50ml.  So not only is her EASY out of whack now, but so is her intake.

She seems to be reverse feeding now - ravenous at night and fussy on the bottle during the day. This has only happened since dreamfeeding.  How do I go about reversing it?  I thnk the solution is to not feed her at night but this is damn near impossible when she yells the house down and won't respond to ssh-pat.  I have tried to coax her into taking more during the day but she refuses it.  Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone else been through this?

Thanks in advance xo

My two were never any good at taking the DF so we just waited for them to wake. At the age of your LO we always just fed at the first wake (usually between 12 and 3am) as it would have been at least 5 hours since the bedtime feed so we assumed genuine hunger - and it was easier on us than re-settling and waking soon after ::). Feeding at night at least once is very normal at your LO's age.

There is info here http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=67403.0 which you should find useful!
