Breastfeeding in Spain
« on: March 05, 2010, 11:38:26 am »
We're going for a few days the week after next with my parents and as Caleb is still exclusively BF he's likely to need the odd feed on the run.  Anybody know how acceptable breastfeeding in public is in general in Spain?  I know they're very family friendly but I just googled it and it said it's frowned upon  :-\

My parents live in Spain.  I BFed while over there in cafes and restaurants.  Tucked a muslin into the strap of my bra and used it to cover exposed skin.   No one turned so much as a hair.

Well, as you know, I'm in Greece and I BF Leo (and DS#1) in public - today in a coffee shop actually!
I have never ever had any probems, comments or negative looks.
TBH I don't think people even realise what I'm doing and the few that have all made 'ahh, isn't that sweet' faces and beamed at me!
So I wouldn't worry at all, hun!
Have a great hol! 8) :-*

I am going to spain soon with my two sisters who will also be breastfeeding their LO's so i hope no one will be too worried or they will get a shock if they sit next to us in the restuarant and we all 3 are feeding as we eat as is often the case! Let me know.

I b/fed when DS was about 8 months old and nobody paid any attention (I always lifted my top up rather than down so nobody could see anything anyway).  You say you googled it and it is frowned upon in Spain but I suppose it's the same as here and I never had even a negative look any time I fed DS in public here. As long as you aren't stripping right off to feed your LO or anything then I can't see a problem, to be honest I don't think most people even realise you are feeding (I was amazed at how often people thought DS was sleeping when he was actually feeding!!) ;)

To warn you though, we struggled to find baby changing facilites so did a lot of al fresco nappy changes which noone cared about, so make sure you have a portable changing mat with you!!!  Have a great holiday :)
L x Having a bw break from 1 Feb 2012 - if you want to get in touch please send me a pm.  I may not be here but you are all in my thoughts xxxx (probably be back some time)

still happily married, just not counting!
