Hello!
I have a feeling that my post will be ridiculously long but I am afraid anything I leave out could be a clue to the solution.  So my apologies in advance to the moms trying to help.

My son is almost 11 months old.  He has had many different NW routines so far and here is the newest one.  He wakes up at around 21:30 and 23:30, crying and standing up.  I let him cry till it is the real thing, then go into his room, put him down and pull the cover over him.  Give him his pacifier and he usually goes to sleep in about a few minutes.  Then he wakes up at 5:30 and no matter how hard I try to put him to sleep, he doesn't.  He rubs his eyes and yawns so he clearly needs more sleep.  He would lie on his side, sucking on the pacifier, eyes wide open.  I begin by placing my hand on him.  When he gets quiet, I move my hand and sit down next to his crib.  Sooner or later, he would either turn onto his tummy and want to stand up or play with his pacifier.  I resettle him and the same thing goes on until I have had enough and usually it is 6:30.  Sometimes when I am exhausted, I will bring him to bed with me and do the morning feed lying down.  He is usually in his highchair having his solid breakfast around 7:30.  Here is the rest of his routine:

*7:30-8:00 breakfast
*8:30-10:00 morning nap-it takes him no time to fall in asleep since he doesn't get more then 10 hours at night and thus exhausted.
*10-11:00 A time
*11:00 breastfeed
*11:15 - noon A time
*noon-13:00 lunch, solid
*13:00 - 14:30 A time
*14:00/30 -13:30/16:00 nap
*16:00 BF
*16:15-17:00 A time
17:00-18:00 dinner/solid
18:00-19:00 15 minutes play time then bath and bedtime

When he wakes at night, he turns onto his tummy and lie there for a few minutes.  Then lifts his head half awake and cries a little.  Eventually he stands up and has the real cry.  I know this because once he had a cold and I kept him with me in my room for two nights.

He is teething but it really doesn't seem to bother him at all.  He has been standing for a month or so and he seems want to stand up on his own lately.

In turns of prop, he only needs his pacifier to night sleep.  And even so, some times he is able to fall in asleep on his own but with me in the room.

He has slept through the night before though only for a hand full of times.  He sometimes wakes up and cries for 5 minutes then falls asleep, though with now he stands up, he doesn't do this any more.

Another important detail is that my husband has to get up at 5:30 to get ready for work.  He tiptoes his way around and makes only small noise.  I have been convinced it is him waking up the baby, BUT, the baby wakes up also on weekends - habit perhaps.  Even so, when doesn't he go back to sleep - my husband is out of the house at 6 and he really doesn't make much noise.

Help please!!!  It has been more than a year since I slept through the night.  We really want more than one child but this sleep deprivation is really scaring me.

HELP PLEASE AND THANKS!

HI there, big hugs I know how it is.  The first year has been really tough for us as well, we have had sporadic STTN and lots of EW from our LO (12 mths).

The first thing that stands out in your routine is that his A time is low and he is still getting a lot of day sleep.  He is likely looking for more A time at this stage.  At 11 mths they are normally somewhere between 3.5-4.5 hrs, a shorter AM nap, then slightly less A time after the AM nap and then a longer PM nap.  A time to bedtime can be long or short depending on how your LO balances his day.

Have you read this link:

It explains about the 2-1 nap transition and how it unfolds.

Thanks for the reply and the link.  I read it and think it could work.  Before I try it out with the baby, I just have a question.

My son has only been taking two good naps for about 1 month.  Before that, he was not able to nap for long at all, .5 hr each at times plus slept less than 10 hours at night.  Also, right now, since he only sleeps for about 10 hours at night, he show signs of tireness after getting up in the morning.  He usually yarns a lot during his breakfast although still in very good mood.  Considering these, do you think he is ready for shorter AM nap / longer PM nap (I think this one is the one to go for)?

Thanks again!

Hi there, I feel your pain because my DS only started perfect napping days at 7.5 mths and then by 9 mths we had to start cutting day sleep.  But they do work to their own schedule really, we have to follow what they are telling us.

Typically, if you cut their day sleep they do tend to do a slightly longer night.

Finn was always tired in the morning, always did a better AM nap, always wanted his nap early.  In order to stop the cycle of EW we had to push out the morning and make it the shorter nap.
