8wks first bottle - very gassy baby
« on: April 16, 2010, 17:03:47 pm »
Hi,
I was hoping to do one bottle a day, and I started yesterday with Enfamil A+. She ate it, and I got the burps, but she was very gassy for the next 12 hours. She is also sensitive to dairy in my diet. Is there another formula I should use, or just wait a little bit longer?
Thanks,
Steph

I would speak to your pead/ health care worker. If she is sensitive to dairy in your diet you may need to use a hypoallergenic formula - can you pump and give her expressed milk in the bottle instead?

Often the gas is associated with the bottle feeding to not just the milk. You may need to play around with different teats/brans and also the flow rates. You will likely have to burp more regularly than during a BF and obviously make sure she is reclined and the bottle is tipped right up. Also if you make up an oz more than she needs it means she doesn't have to drink to the end of the bottle which can be when lots of gas gets in.
