ah thanks for that!

well she already woke up at 9.15 for a few minutes - had to stroke her hair a little but went back down...

im thinking its a case of the old UT OT thing.... this happens to me when she gets OT but not so OT that she goes into a dead sleep which would cause EW instead it causes NW...

im really hoping I can get this sorted cos im so tired and she is even more tired!!

thanks again for your support!

I'm in the same boat with you Annette.    I pushed Marlow's A time to 5 hours and she slept 1.5 hours.   She woke at 1pm.   I'm also doing a 5.5 hour A before bed.   I think I'm going to be running a bit late.    I've had multiple NW the last 4 nights due to me playing with her schedule.   I know it takes them a few days to recover from OT and it takes them a few days to get used to a new schedule so I'm going with alternating one nap every other day.

I hope it worked out ok for you marlows mum - think thats a good idea alternating...

well my night was actually really good - she woke twice but not like the normal hour+ NWs it was literally one WI/WO both times!!! and then she woke at 6am this morning - so 11.5 hrs night sleep - the best in soooo long!

now Ive gone and done a stupid thing today - because I dont want to repeat the 1 nap and have to put her to bed earlier than yesterday meaning 5.30 am wake up I decided to stretch her out to 11.30 for her nap - hoping for a long 2 hr nap so I can put her to bed at 6.30 again - ive just put her down and she was chatting loads and a bit hyper - I can feel a 1 hr 20 min nap coming on....

my problem is that because I work 3 days a week and dont get home until 6.30 it means on those days Its around 7.15/30 before I can get her to bed making for a long day if she doesnt nap well and will gaurantee me NW or EW so how would you handle this?

Im thinking I could either ;

a) get her up early on work days so start day always at 6am then get MIL to do 2 naps like this;

11am - 12.30
4.30 - 5
8pm bedtime

or

b) do a set naptime of 11.30 stick with the same time eventually pushing it forward slightly - hope that she will settle in to a routine of waking up later around 7 and just rush her to bed when I get back...

its so hard isnt it!!

I would favour the second tbh but only as I could NEVER wake DS in the am - it would break my heart after all the early mornings we go through here!!!
I would def say the second but the problem is that it does mean a flexible approach to bedtime especially when they first transition so you may find that she needs an earlier bedtime than 7/7.15pm.
The only other thing is to just set naptime for slightly later and bedtime at the time you get in and hope she adjusts. We are doing something similar xxx

So glad you had a good night!  And fingers crossed for you that she has a good nap!

(btw I would also favour the 2nd option...I've found that DS sleeps so much better on 1 nap)

hello rileys mum!

yeah its defo the age that the fun and games begin!!

well unfortunately I was right and she did a 1 hr 20 min nap - now im sooooo confused as what to do - my gut instinct is to do an early bedtime again thinking 6pm so a 5 hr A time - could still get an OT EW from that but very reluctant to do an earlier bedtime than that incase of a 5am wake up!

I got a 11.5 hr night yesterday but she had also had 2 1/2 hr nap so total sleep = 14 hrs so If I get the bedtime right and she makes up for lost daytime sleep then she should by rights do a 12.5 hr night but im not convinced that im going to get that! do you ladies think 6pm is too late?

also when she woke from nap I did WI/WO quite a few times and it wasnt working so gave up and just kept her in her dark room cuddling her for about another 45 mins - she was almost falling asleep but just couldnt quite manage it! im thinking maybe that quiet time should help a bit.

ooooohhhhhhhh sooooooooooooo haaaaaaaaarrrdd!!!!

we get 1.20 a lot and today actually! I have stopped worrying about OT or UT as far as that goes as it was driving me crazy. I will do 6.30pm bedtime which is 5 hours A time.
I think that if you have a lo who can make up the sleep at night then 6pm is not too early but we have to set a limit at 6.30pm as Henry would just wake up too early otherwise. Basically some benefit really well from a super early bed but some don't.

I think it's worth really taking note as to whether an early night actually lead to an earlier morning for your lo - my DH was dubious for months about us putting Ben to bed early - and it was only after a looooong time that it twigged that earlier nights often meant *later* mornings for us!!  If you find that it does help then you'll be more confident about giving early nights when needed

it worked last night - 11.5 hrs is amazing for me and if id have put her to bed at 7.30 I can guarantee that she would have woken at 5.30/6 so earlier and with less sleep!

im just thinking that if I get the same 11.5 hrs then she was down by 5.45 so would be up at 5.15 but then at least would wake refreshed!

13 1/2 hrs - 14 hrs a day sleep is truely amazing so I will be happy if I can get it sorted!

and tonight the weirdest thing happened - she didnt scream at me when I got her ready for bed - she actually layed and let me massage her - trust me its never happened not even once - she is super touchy and spirited and has always cried every night before bed!

this is exactly what happened - spooky!!

so today I have put her down for first nap with just 4 1/2 hrs A time and see what that gets me - she was very tired when I put her down... hopefully not OT ::)

I am going out tonight so the super early bedtime is actually good for me today! but work tomorrow so Im thinking OT is going to come get me on sunday....
