Need help with 11 mth old and EW
« on: April 04, 2010, 13:08:31 pm »
My dd is 11 mths and we are still fighting EWings.  She recently got tubes put in and did great for about a week afterwards but we are slowly going back to waking up early.  My concern is really not HOW early she wakes up, just that I don't think she is getting enough sleep at night.  I have tried earlier and later bedtimes but nothing chnages her wake time.  If I put her down early, she will roll around and talk for as long as an hour before she falls alseep.  HEre is our routine:

W 6:00
E 7:00
A
S 9:45 (only sleeps 30-45 min max)

E 11:30
A
S 2:00

E 3:30
A
Dinner and bedtime routine starts at 630
S 7:45 (doesnt usually fall asleep until 8:15 or 8:30)

Hi there, we have fought 10 hour nights for a long time so I feel your pain.  Things did not get better for us until this last week, 12.5 months and after starting daycare.  I do still think you need an earlier bedtime, that last A time is pretty long for 11 mths and is bound to cause OT.  It seems like she is UT at bedtime but in fact probably in second wind and long past when she should have been in bed.

The total naps length is a bit on the lower side but not uncommon at 11 mths when they begin the 2-1 transition.  Their day sleep gets cut back to closer to 2-2.25 hrs.  What we did at 11 mths to get a better longer PM nap is to cut the AM nap to 20 mins and then next nap at no more than 3 hours later.

How is she during the day?  Are her nights solid?  I think it's a matter of shifting and playing with the A time in the day and naps to help adjust the nights.
The tweaking never stops!

She is overall a very happy baby.  Sleeps solid through the night until around 6am.

With the naps, I do think she is starting to transition to 2-1 naps.  If her morning nap is really short, she will sometimes stretch that afternoon nap until 4 or 4:30 but I always get her up by 4:30 so I can get her down at a decent time at night.  I would say on average she is getting 2 1/2 hrs of day sleep.

I put her down tonight at 7:35 and she didn't fall asleep until 8:40.  She woke up from her pm nap at 4pm.   I am so confused!

Also, to add...when she wakes at 6 she usually wakes and talks for awhile-she doesnt really fuss until about 20 minutes later.  So that makes me think she is rested BUT she is then yawning again by 7:45 or so which is way too early for a morning nap.

Well she woke up at 6:10 this morning after finally falling asleep at 8:40.  That is only 9 1/2 hrs! I know everyone is probably going to say she is overtired and to put her down early but when I try to, she just lays there like last night..not fussy, just talking to her animals until she finally drifts off.

to be honest 6am is in the normal waking time for a baby, anything before is considered biologically EW. 6am is a good time to start the day, my little one wakes at 5.30, now that is a battle
