Is it okay to go 5 hours between feeds instead of 4?
« on: April 11, 2010, 20:30:39 pm »
Hello!
I have a four month old and we are just starting EASY.  We are using the 4/4 routine, but my LO drinks 6oz every 5 hours.  I am having trouble with her eating at  7am when she wakes.  She usually will wait about an hour before eating.  This throws off the schedule for the day and it's hard to follow the 4/4 schedule.  Is there an EASY routine for this?

 :)

Well the reason the feeds are every 4 hours is to ensure your LO is getting enough calories during the day to give them the best possible chance of getting through the night iyswim. Its also more compatible with naps etc

Do you think there is a particular reason why she is not taking a good feed at 7am? Is she still having a nightfeed?

So...

This is our third day on EASY and it is getting better with the feedings every 4 hours.  The problem we are encountering os she wakes up at 4am, even after having a DF at 11.  The first day she woke up at 4, I tried to feed her and she only drank 2oz.  This made me think she wakes at 4 out of habit so this morning we did not feed her.  She cried for about an hour and did the shush/pat until she finally feel asleep.  I'm afraid that if we feed her we are encouraging a bad habit, delay her 7am feed and throw off the rest of the day.  If we don't, I'm afraid we are starving her.  What do you recommend?

I have the same problem with my 4.5mo lo. Hope someone has good answers!! (Except he has been taking a full 6 oz at 2:30 or 4.) Only takes 3 oz. at dream feed too.

Personally I would offer a reduced amount if you aren't sure if its hunger or not. If oyu only give a couple of oz,s then that should tide bub over until 7am when they should take a full feed. Saying that its not uncommon of a bub of your LO's age to still need a feed so you are doing really well!!  ;D

Thank you!

We still haven't given up yet!  Today it has been a week since we started EASY.  I am still doing the DF between 10-11 and went with my heart and didn't skip the 4am feed.  I think she is still needing those few ounces to get through the night.  Now the teething...
