Hello all,
My DD is a week shy of 5 months, she had been on EASY since day 5 and sleeping from 7-7 since 1 month old. However, some days ago, she woke up between 4 am and 5 am for 2 days in a row. I upped  her food during the day and she started sleeping OK. Now, she is waking up at 6. At first, I thought, just let her play a little and she'll go back to sleep. Although, she did not do it, I waited until 7 to get her. I'm trying to get her on a 4hr routine and she's already eating on a 4hr schedule, but the A and S are not working. Since she wakes up at 6, she goes to sleep at 8, only to sleep 45 mins and back to play.
Today, I did Wake to Sleep at 5, when I got there to do it again by 6.10, she was happily waking up so I did PUPD which made her cry. She was getting sleepy but then it was already 7, so I fed her, A until 8, S at 8.15. woke up at 9. Did not go to sleep after trying PUPD and stayed awake, E at 11, A until 12, S by 12.20. When I arrived to do Wake to sleep at 12.45 before she woke up again she was already opening her eyes, happy again but sleepy, grabbing her fingers and doing bubbles. Only after I started PUPD, she started crying inconsolably. It's already 2 and she's still awake, after I finally stopped PUPD she calmed down and started eating her fingers and doing bubbles quietly in her crib. 2.30 pm and still playing  quietly! She does not like the paci at all.
I am soooooo confused and desperate, she is a very happy baby, but Grumpy type. She's playing and smiling all day and already trying to roll over.
I just realized she's starting to have trouble going to sleep at 7, since 2 days ago she goes to sleep at 7 but is done only by 7.40. The day naps are also getting shorter and her waking up is earlier too.
Please help!  :'(

hey there....sorry you're going through all of this. i know its not easy...i am also blessed with a super happy baby that smiles in his crib after a 5 min nap! its so hard to tell whats going on when they're always smiling! just from a quick glance at your EASY..looks like perhaps you need to bump up your As a bit. i would start with the first one and see what kind of nap you get out of it. i know that when my lo wakes happy after a short nap, i have zero chance of trying to extend it. we actually dont have much luck with extentions, but for sure, no luck when he's UT and i think thats what you are dealing with. so, essentially, i think you are dealing with a UT/OTcycle throughout your days which we have over here quite often. i would try to bump that first A by 5-10 mins and see if that will help lengthen that first nap and remember to try it for 3 days. then you can re evaluate the situation and start work on the subsequent As. make sense? i bet once you get that first A straigtened out, the EWs might start to diminish. at 5 months, typical As can be from 2-2.25hrs so you have some room to play around with. i hope this helps you out a bit! i hope you can get some more eyes on this! good luck!

Nap problem solved ;) Thanks. New or older problem that I need to solve now: she’s waking up by 5.30 am, she was doing it at 7-7.30 am. Ruled out hunger (wouldn’t eat at all). She just plays and/or starts ‘talking’ sometimes really really loud ???. I always wait, hoping for her to go back to sleep on her own. But, she can be there by herself even 1hr and wouldn’t go back to sleep.
Why? What can I do? She is always been hard to sleep as I told you before (grumpy), I quit doing WTS and PUPD since a week ago because they didn’t seem to be working at all and she’s still waking up between 5.30 and 6.15 am, different time every day. She turned 5 months past Tuesday.
Please help!

oh, boy- i wish i could help you with the EWs....we are in the midst of dealing with that as well...ugh. no fun :( i would start a new thread on the nightwaking board so maybe one of the mod's can have a look at your EASY and see if needs a tweak. or- i currently have a thread going on over there entitled "6month old and EWs" and there are a bunch of lovely ladies on there and we'd love to have you join in....either way, good luck. EWs are nobody's friend.

congrats on solving your nap prob though. what did you end up doing? how much day sleep is she currently getting? could she be getting too much and its robbing her nightsleep?

Well, she's not getting yet 2hr naps, but it's on 11/2hrs. When I hear her waking up at around 45 mins I'll go and do the shush pat. I'm now wondering if it can turn into a prop...I'm afraid of it too. But we just arrived from travelling, so I'm trying to get her on her regular schedule. She's sleeping 11/2 to 2hr in the morning, the same in the afternoon and around 30 mins between 5-6pm. Then goes to sleep at 7-7.30, to WU at 6.30. I'll get on your thread asap! Thanks.
