Bedtime bottle question...
« on: April 25, 2010, 00:51:00 am »
So our lo (7 months) isn't drinking her bedtime bottle, she drinks maybe 2-3oz. Here is our easy on a normal day:

wake & E 6:30 (7oz bottle)
A
E 8:00 (3Tbs solids)
A
S 9:15
E 11:00 (7 oz bottle)
A
E 12:30 (3 Tbs solids)
A
S 2:00
E 3:30 (7oz bottle)
A
E 5:00 (3 Tbs solids)
A
E 6:00 (bedtime bottle usually only drinks 3 oz, used to drink 7 oz)
A bath
S 6:30\6:45 bed
DF 9:00 (3 oz) we are in the process of eliminating this)

My question is should we just focus on getting rid of the dreamfeed for now or should we also starting getting rid of that 3:30 bottle and replace it with a snack so she drinks her before bed bottle?

what if you moved dinner to 4 pm since the dinner solids are fairly close to  bedtime and therfor she may not be very hungry for the bedtime bottle.  i would hang on to 4 bottles a bit longer.  get rid of the df first before you get rid of a day bottle.

I agree, get rid of the DF first and see how that works. Have you tried giving her her bottle after her bath - that would give a bit more tme between tea and bed bottle.

Yeah we tried giving her bottle after bath and  had the same results.  We will try moving the solids up to 4 and see what happens.  I agree I want to hold on to 4 bottles for a while longer!!

What about trying both - move tea earlier and bottle after bath so you have even longer!

Let us know how you get on!

I am having the same problem! Only it didn't seem to matter when I fed my little guy his dinner, he won't drink the bottle no matter what, so I am having to hold onto the DF so he doesn't wake up at 5 tired and hungry.  If you find a solution, please let me know!! His current schedule is...

Just wanted to know if anyone could offer some advice for me.  Currently my 8 mo. son's schedule is this...

6:00- Wake play in bed
6:30- Bottle 5 oz (will never take more then 5)
7:30- Breakfast
9:30-11:30 NAP
11:30- Bottle (5 oz)
12:00- Lunch
2:30-4:00- NAP
4:00- Bottle (5 oz)
5:00- Dinner (this could be as late or as early as 4/6:30 for the reasons below)
7:15- Bottle (always refused)
7:30- BED
10:00 - DF (2-3 oz)
My little guy is a great eater, but the last few weeks, NO MATTER what I do he will not take a bottle before bed. He takes the other 3 great, but it has to be atleast 4 hours between when he last ate anything for him to take a bottle. As his awake time is 3.5 at the most, there is no way to get a bottle, dinner, and then another bottle in him before bed. I have tried just dropping it and giving him dinner later to see if he can make it until morning, but more often then not he is up hungry at 5/5:30.  I have just restorted to reinstating the dream feed, which usually gives us a nice not hungry wake up in the morning. I am not sure how long I should be giving him a dreamfeed though.  Any ideas?

Last night worked better, I wasn't home but my dh fed our dd her solids at 4:30 (she had a late nap and didn't wake till 4:00) and then her bedtime bottle was at 6:30 and she drank 5 oz.  I forgot to mention to him to wait till after the bath so he fed her before so tonight we will try after the bath and see if she drinks the full 7 oz....although I will take 5!!!

CharlieS, I have no suggestions as this is hopefully going to work for me.  I'm not sure what a good age to drop that 4:00 bottle is, hopefully the others can help you out!!

that's great!
charlie - maybe start your own post to get more eyes on it.  most los will drop to 3 bottles around 10 mo so you need to hold out a bit longer and for sure need to have df gone before then.  you could remove the dinner feed as at 8 mo it's not necessary to have 3 solids meals and that may help.

So last night was great, she drank all 7 oz! Yay!!!  Tonight not so good, only drank 2 oz. ERR!!  But I don't think she was feeling that good today, she vomited twice, not even just a little spit up but almost projectile vomit.  It was odd, other than the vomitting she was totally fine and her normal happy self.  Not sure what to think, anyways I will keep an eye on that and keep trying the earlier solids and later bottle.
