Pillow and Blanket Question
« on: December 14, 2010, 17:50:03 pm »
Ds is days away from being 16 months old. In his crib he sleeps without a pillow and only recently started using a very light flannel blanket. He sleeps all over the crib so he's never with his blanket but I find he has shown a fascination for pillows. If I put him on our bed or if he goes into his sister's room he burries his head on our pillows and loves to squish them. When is it safe to introduce a pillow? My dd had a very flat pillow my mom made for her but I don't remember her age when I introduced it.

I *think* when I was wondering the same thing for DD I was told it was considered safe after 12 months, but I am not entirely sure that I am remembering that correctly.

Yes, I also think I have read pillows and duvets are ok from 12 months.  I introduced a pillow at 13/14 months and DD went from wriggling all over the cot to pretty much sleeping the right way up in the bed, it was fab!!  Then I gave her a duvet at about 20 months when she moved to a BGB.

We introduced a pillow to Spencer at 16 months when she went to a BGB, Masyn just used her teddy bear like a pillow until she went to a BGB at 2.5.  Spencer never moves in her sleep so it changed nothing, in fact I don't know if she even sleeps on it. Masyn moves so much that I usually find her dangling off the edge of the bed, though she does start the night on her pillow!

I think Tristan was just over a year when we gave him a pillow.  He loved it and has loved having one ever since.  :)
