Solids and the touchy baby, please help!
« on: May 31, 2010, 08:38:07 am »
Hi ladies, wondering if you can help
I started solids with my 7 m.o. DS about a month ago and he is not picking it up, he has always been a bit of a fussy eater and I know him being atouchy baby takes longer to likenew foods but he is just not eating more than 1/2 tsp of food a day! Mostly fruit he gages at veggies and is the only baby in the 7 months group not eating enough, however he was the only baby in the groupsleeping through the night something he is been doing since he was a week old but for the last two weeks he is been waking up 2/3 times a night I know is hunger but I try to push him till 7am with the dummy but isnot working so we ended feeding him at 4.45 mostly every night now I don't know if he is waking up due to AP as is almost the same times every night (around 2,3,4am) or genuenly hungry although he does drink quite a lot (between 180 to 240mls) I know i probably need to increase the solids but i don't know how to do it without forcing him
any ideas?
Our routine looks like this
7am formula (240ml)
9am breakfast 1 cube pureed fruit
11am formula (200ml)
13pm Lunch less than 1 tsp of veggies
15pm formula (210ml)
16.30pm dinner fruit less than 1 tsp of fruit
18.30pm formula (240ml)
22.30pm DF (240ml)

now that he is waking upat 4am we have moved the first feed at 8am
thank you guys I will appreciate any feedback

At 7 months solids are going to be such a new thing for him, I would not push it at all, let him take the lead in terms of how much he wants to eat and when to add more food. All babies are so different, at 7 months my ds was barely taking in one meal of cereal! At this age, formula or bfing is the most important aspect of their meals and the main source of nutrition, solids are for tasting and learning about textures. What is his reaction to the solids? Have you tried experimenting with the texture/consistency, selection, etc., and he just isn't too interested in the food overall? Could he be teething? I find my ds has been eating less this past week for this reason. Not sure about the nws, if his formula intake has not changed, has anything else changed- his naps, or anything?
