waht method
« on: May 19, 2010, 09:52:06 am »
my 15 month old son is screaming and crying when settling not all the time and mainly if wakes once asleep. i dont want to do gradual retreat as i think this wont work and i feel he isnt as bad that i want to risk creating a bigger issue. i tried wi/wo and im not sure if was doing correct, he was sobbing when i layed him bak down and walked out, should i have stayed longer? if i go when he is cring anyway how do i no when to go back? it seems he is worse when i leave again and im scared that this will make his crying longer as he will have incentive to keep going. i dont believe that cc/cio are as bad as others do, but i DONT want to do those things, not for me. can anyone help,as im going through this at the moment and really need advice to get started asap. thankyou!

Yes he will still be crying when you walk out. Just listen to his cries for a moment, if he is really crying hard then go straight back in after 15-20 seconds or so. If he is stop-start crying, wait a while longer. It's important to really listen. If you stay for a while to comfort him, yes he will have incentive to keep crying. But if you just go in and then straight out again, there's no incentive.

Yeh, you don't wait for him to stop crying. Just walk in, lay him down, say good night and leave again.
