When should I expect to be able to dream feed?
« on: June 23, 2010, 03:51:26 am »
My baby is only 3 weeks old and is not yet dream feeding because when he's asleep he won't even open his mouth. When should I expect him to dream feed?

We did cluster feeding at this age, stopping at about 9 weeks, when we went to the DF instead. I did find that I couldn't BF the dreamfeed, he would just be too sleepy, so we gave that one feed of the day by bottle.

We didn't start the DF till 3 months but we managed to do a BF fine.  I just edged my little finger gently into her mouth to get her a bit sucky and then stroked her mouth with my nipple and she took it fine.  I was terrified of waking her the first time but she was out cold and it was not a problem.  She was automatically sucky the next time I tried it, I just had to stroke my nipple on her mouth to get her sucking, no finger required.
