Sorry you're having a rough day.  TBH, I think the teeth are probably causing more trouble than you realise - they were a big cause of EWs with E.  I would give her meds before naps and bedtime for a few days at least (it won't do any harm) and see if that helps.  Other than that, I suspect it is a question of riding it out - unfortunately it is very difficult to make routine changes when teething is in the equation, not least because it is hard to work out what their needs are.

As for what other people are doing - it's very hard to work out what your day should look like based on what other babies are doing.  BW can give you a typical/average day, but every baby is different and will need a slightly different structure/amount of sleep.  When E was 6 months, M was 27 months and needed more sleep in 24 hours than E - it's just the way they are.

(((hugs))) Hope your day gets better and that your dinner is (was?  not sure of the time difference!) fun.

thanks clazzat :)
i appreciate the hugs!!!
i really hope you're right and its teething...i think with my first DD i put a lot down to teething, but with poor DD2 i hardly think about it (you know how it is first time round...you are waiting and looking for every new change and milestone) its almost like instead of assuming its teething i feel like you could always excuse something and say its teething so i go the opposite and think 'surely this can't ALL be because of teeth'!! that probably doesn't make sense, but i think what i'm trying to say is i should give the poor girl the benefit of the doubt and consider that she might actually be in pain!!
Also DD1 literally cut one tooth at a time...with a good month or so between each tooth, but DD2 seems to be getting 5 or 6 at the moment (4 molars and 2 either side of top front teeth)...which surely must be painful!
Tonight after we were out for dinner DD2 took a long time to settle. I hadn't given her pain meds (silly silly mummy) and so ended up patting her to sleep as she was so upset. She has been SUPER clingy all day, and that is what makes me second guess myself...is she just ridiculously overtired...or is she just i a lot of pain...or both :(

She has honestly been so so unhappy all day today, its one of the worst days for ages. She has cried and clung to me and been so miserable. If she's like that again tomorrow, do I shorten her A times and just put her to bed early, and aim for an early night...or will that risk more UT night wakings (wendy???)...

Todays As were

5am wake...BF...tried to settle in cot...brought to our bed 5:30...asleep 6ish...
6:40am wake (3hrs A)
9:40 asleep (50 minute nap)
10:30 awake (3.5hrs A)
2pm nap (1.5 hr nap)
3:30 awake (3.5hrs to bedtime...but took till 4hrs 15 mins to get to sleep)
7pm bedtime (Bf then lots of wi/wo...followed by patting a very sad girl to sleep)
7:45 asleep

So really naps weren't THAT bad...and her EW lost her about an hour sleep, but other than that she didn't lose that much overnight from 7:30 bedtime last night...so her misery seems way out of proportion if it was just related to OT..must be teeth....praying tonight is ok, and will have the syringe of panadol ready to go if she wakes.

Hi there, it really is teeth.

I think the day is getting too long and that's perpetuating things, I would try what you suggested.  I think an UT NW is better than a whole day of OT and chaos.
The tweaking never stops!

thanks wendy :)
getting her down early tomorrow morning suits me anyway as we have playgroup at 9:30 (we often get there at 10).
Do i just do a 30 minute AM nap but then go with her cues for possibly an early PM nap? then early bedtime? what is a reasonable last A time after a 1.5hr PM nap (thats what we're getting most often at the moment).

thanks again

(ps. clazzat its nearly 9pm thursday here and i think its 12:30 lunchtime in the UK...7:30am in canada :)

Actually your day looked pretty good - 50 mins in the morning and 1h30 is a good day in my book.  Hope the night goes well.  While she might be a bit OT from teething and being unsettled, I think with naps like that she is probably not so OT that it gives you a good reason for her behaviour - the behaviour sounds more and more like teething - I'd dose her up on whatever you can give her and hope that it helps her to settle.

I would have thought that she is likely to manage 3h30 on a 1h30 nap - maybe even 4h.  You can watch her cues to see if she needs to go down earlier, and work from there.  I had a very set bedtime from an early age - the real benefit was that she would go to sleep really easily so I always had evenings to myself which let me recharge for the nights/EWs - so it might be worth thinking about whether you have the option of setting bedtime to help with that.

thanks clazzat :)

Good to have you agree that the naps were good enough that surely OT can't be the main culprit! Just time to grin and bear it i think and wait for those teeth to come through.

Bedtime doesn't vary too much around here...anywhere from 7-7:30 is about the range, so she usually goes to sleep ok...9 times out of 10. Actually tonight was unusual for her to settle badly..thats one thing (fingers crossed) thats she's doing ok with...actually going to sleep at nap and bedtimes. But i'm trying to work out A times that mean a good night and hopefully not an EW. I thing the teething really is clouding everything, so i will try to take a chill pill and wait for it to pass...by then we'll probably be much closer to 1 nap and i'll have new problems :P
