Naps better now early waking!!
« on: June 30, 2010, 12:49:28 pm »
DD is 17 months and I posted a few weeks ago about issues with moving to one nap and it being short (1hr), we went on vacation last week and DD did ok but was still taking the short naps. Before we left she was napping at 1pm so we moved her till 12pm now thinking she was OT before.

We've been home 4 days now and her naps have gotten back on track (1 1/2- 2 hrs) but now she's started waking really early in the AM (normal is 630am--she's up at 545am now!) I'm not sure what to do with this..should I just not worry about it and hope she starts sleeping later again soon? Her room has blackout blinds and the blackout curtains so it's not a light issue!! She does not wake crying and I don't go and get her till around 645a so she just rolls around in there for about 1 hr but won't go back to sleep...maybe she needs a later bedtime??
Here is the last couple of days schedules..suggestions?

Sunday June 27th
 Wake-- 600am
Nap-- 1210pm-215pm
Bed---720pm (in the crib at 7p)

Monday June 28th
Wake--630am (I think she was up way earlier but didn't check the monitor)
Nap----1215p--200pm (woke twice crying)
Bed--720pm (in the crib at 7p)

Tuesday June 29th
Wake--545am
Nap--1210pm--145pm
Bed--715pm (in the crib at 7p)

Wednesday June 30th
Wake---545am

What jumps out at me is that her days are quite long, 13-13.5 hours.
We have been going through something similar and I found that bringing bedtime a bit earlier helped i.e. I had to factor in the chatting time and put him in bed with enough time to allow for chatting. Does that make sense? I think if she is napping less than 2 hours I would bring bedtime earlier so that she is asleep by 7pm.
What do you think?

Thanks, I was afraid to move her bedtime to early and have her waking up even earlier.
So you think for a nap 2 hrs or more in bed at 7pm and for a nap less then 2 hrs maybe in the crib at 645p to be asleep at 7pm?
She slept from 1215p-215pm today so I'm guessing I'll put her down at 7pm and see what happens come tomorrow??

Of course yesterday was better so we'll see if it continues

Wake--545am
Nap--1215pm--215pm
Bed-- In bed at 7pm  I think she feel asleep around 720p
Woke this morning at 7am :)

since she got up earlier today I asked my sister to put her down at 1230pm for her nap, do you think that's ok or should I stick with 12pm?

Glad it went well last night. I have a half hour window in which I out my son down for a nap so 12-12.30pm. If he is up around 6.30pm then he is in bed for 12pm ish but if it is 7am then it is 12.30pm and anything in between is in between that so 6.45 - 12.15pm. I find that sticking within half an hour helps a lot. Once he woke at 7.10pm and I tried for a later nap around 12.45pm and he just would not fall asleep. I think toddlers do get quite set with their body cocks tbh.
Keep me posted

Wow I don't know what I doing wrong these days, she is now waking up again around 630am which is great, I've been putting her down around 12pm for nap but the issue is she either sleeps like 2 + hrs (she did this on Sat) or like 1 hr (today). I can;t figure out if she is UT or OT??
Today she did happen to sleep till 7am, I put her down at 12pm and she went right to sleep but woke at 110p and is just playing with no signs of going back down. Do you think I should have put her down later??
I'm guessing since she only napped 1 hr today I should put her down at 645pm so she's asleep by 7p?

yes I agree about bedtime.
I found that 5.5 hours A time worked well for us at that age but it may be a case of experimenting a bit. We have this too. Some days he naps 2 hours, some days not but as he is that bit older he can handle it better. There are lots of factors to consider like the night sleep, previous day, how busy the morning is etc.
