Blowout causes timing to be off!
« on: July 19, 2010, 18:26:38 pm »
Hi Mamas!
This is my first time here, so I'm looking forward to getting your advice on Baby Whisperer techniques. We've been doing PU/PD with our 9.5 month old for almost a week now. I did the ultimate AP before that and my son would always fall asleep while nursing. Now we put him in a crib awake and do PU/PD and it's been challenging, but worth it for the progress we've seen (2-3 NWs vs. 5-6 before!)

This is our usual EASY:

7-7:30 wake and E nurse
7:30 A (stroller walk, play in exersaucer)
9 S morning nap
10:30 wake from nap
11 E nurse
11:15 A (usually something outside or a class)
1 solids
2 S afternoon nap
3:30 wake from nap and E nurse
4 A playtime
6 solids
7 start wind-down routine (bath, nurse, stories, bedtime) - usually doesn't sleep until 8:30 though...

So my question is, this morning, he had a huge blowout and woke up at 6 AM. I changed him and of course he was pretty awake, but grumpy, so I put him back down. It was quicker than putting him down for a nap, but not as quick as NW. But then he slept until 8:30 (and I did, too) so we're off our usual timing. My question is, do I just shift everything down by an hour and end up with him going to bed later than usual?

My husband is upstairs now still trying to put him down for a nap and it's past the time he would usually be UP after his nap. Do we just try to skip the morning nap to get back on his usual timings?

I'm hoping that we aren't messing up the progress we've seen so far!

Thanks in advance!

I'd probably do 2 x 1 hour naps and go to bed at the usual time.

Or one 1.5 hour nap and one CN and then bed.  the shorter naps will mean he'll need slightly less A time.

HTH xx

Thanks!
It turns out that's what he ended up doing. We just followed his cues and put him down when he was tired. He took a 1 hour morning nap, and a 45 minute afternoon nap. We're about 50 minutes off what he would normally do, so hopefully it won't make the bedtime routine too bad!
Thanks for your advice!

Not a bother!  These things happen from time to time.  You did exactly the right thing.  Follow his cues and you can't go too wrong x
