7-month Old has Reduced Bottle
« on: August 07, 2010, 22:53:09 pm »
I know there's probably a few posts on a similar subject but I'm posting my own anyway!
My 7-month old DD used to be a great bottle feeder. She'd chug down 6 oz in a few minutes without a pause. Now, I have to fight with her to take that much. Her last bottle of the evening is usually pretty good and she'll take the 6 oz. I'll do a DF at about 11 or so and then the first bottle of the day ends up being maybe 4 ozs and the remaining bottles of the day are about the same, if we're lucky. She's a great solid feeder and I'm thinking she'd prefer to eat real food. But I think it's too early for her to eat mainly solids? Correct? Perhaps I should wean the DF and see what happens? I don't see any signs of teething, though, I'm sure there must be something happening because of her age. She has had 2 teeth since she was 5 months old and I didn't even know she was getting them!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

How much is she getting in 24 hours? She needs a minimum of 20oz of milk, that can include milk in foods but, you are right that milk should be her main source of nutrition for a while yet. Have you tried cutting solids back slightly to see if that increases her milk intake? Are her milk feeds before her solids feeds?

Have you tried a faster flow teat? Teething could well be to blame too, teething gel just before a feed may help. You could start weaning the DF, it's usually around 7/8 months when they are more established on solids that it can be dropped.

If you like, post your EASY putting in milk/solids times with the amounts she has for us to have a look at!

We aim for about 5 -6oz bottles a day (including DF). I cut way back on solids today to see what happened. Just gave her 3 cubes each meal and it seems to have done the trick (she was getting 5!). She`s drank all her bottles so far today now if only she would sleep!!! If it`s not one thing, it`s another it seems with these little creatures!

That's good on the milk side! Totally agree on the other bit - you get one thing sorted and they throw something else at you. Don't they know they are supposed to follow the book? ;D

Hi!  I'm going to jump in here!  I am having a similar issue with my 7 mo!  She went from eating 6oz 4 times a day (so 24oz a day) to eating only 4 oz 4 times a day, some feedings only 2oz!!!!  I tried giving her less solids, but it didn't make a difference!!  I don't know what is going on!

Well, as of today, I'm increasing solids again because I'm thinking that's what's keeping her up at night. She cried for ages last night and I wonder if it's because she was hungry. I'm going to start offering 4oz bottles instead and I believe as long as she gets at least 20 ozs in a  day, she's ok. could your lo be teething?
