what am i doing wrong
« on: July 22, 2010, 07:10:05 am »
Hi,
I thought I d write that in the lounge because i need to undesrtand the why, more than anything else...
its nothing major but its bugging the hell out of me.

so I am a working mum- part timer. I go to work at 830 and back home around 2. I usually give breakfast to my 10.5 months old and then leave and the nanny takes over.

now, before it was she who gave breakfast ... I just found it more convenient... but not anymore... so its been 2 weeks that i m enjoying feeding my lo for every breakfast and supper.

the issue:
Lo wont take the spoon with me in the mornings but she d take it with the nanny.

I can feed her lunch with a spoon on the week-ends... but recently she just doesnt take the spoon with me for breakfast...not sure what happened...
I give finger food for supper and breakfast... she LOVES it and i versify a lot...and since lo drinks very little milk, lower than average ( I have another thread about that) i find it difficult to give yogurt in finger foods...

i want to give breakfast to lo, i love the mornings with her, but she also needs the yogurt mix and wouldnt take it with me with a spoon. I dont understand why this is happening.

I know i encouraged a lot finger foods...maybe that s why.... i even help her feed with my fingers when she skips a piece ... i tried to combine finger and food but she just clamp her lips...

so my concerns are :
why is it that she accepts the yougurt with the nany and not with me...
should i just let the nany feed her!!!... i dread that answer!
i m starting to hate that nany... sorry for the aggessiveness... but she is pretty good ... cant say anything abd about her and cant really replace her...and i know its just me not her...

if lo was taking enough milk , i wouldnt have worried so much about that... but she is not...

i know this post may sound very silly but to be honest, I just want to be the one who cares most about lo and that lo responses more to... i m sure ykwim....

thank you ladies for your thoughts xxxxxxx

Perhaps cos she wants to be independent but with the Nanny who is not Mummy or Daddy she doesn't want to be independent.

I would try leaving her with the spoon to see if she would do it herself, she is at the right age to start trying.

Hugs, you are not doing anything wrong xxx

Lots of hugs. You don't sound silly at all.

No experience with this whatsoever, so maybe daft ideas, but what about yoghurt in a tube that they have? Is that too complex? Or sometimes you can get yoghurt in those fruit shaped bottles...? Again, no idea...

We make our own yoghurt... could you make it quite thick and make it a dip? Maybe she can dip some fruit pieces in it?

what about you put the food on the spoon, then hand her the spoon so she can try and do it herself? thats what we tried when Caleb started refusing and it worked!!! could be an independant streak shes showing only to Mummy because she feels comfortable and safe with you :)

LOs also pick up easily on food related stress.  It could be that she can tell you are a bit wound up over it whereas the nanny really isn't. I used to have a friend who came over once a week to help me out with my DS at this age and I could sit and try to feed him for AGES and he'd have none of it, but the second she gave it a go he was all smiles and eager to eat and would enjoy every minute of it.  Difference was that she didn't have this internal burning desire to MAKE HIM EAT the way I did!!  On weekends I bet you already have it in your head that you have no problems with her eating on a Saturday so you are already facing it with a more relaxed manner and approach and she picks up on that as well, and eats better.   I'd either just try to really calm down about it inside, and if not then let the nanny do it for a while.

Thank you ladies for your responses, it gave e some insight:

So, i tried to hand her the spoon, she doesnt seem to know what to do with it... :S should I keep trying?

No experience with this whatsoever, so maybe daft ideas, but what about yoghurt in a tube that they have? Is that too complex? Or sometimes you can get yoghurt in those fruit shaped bottles...? Again, no idea...

we have a thick type of yogurt that we can spread on sandwiches... that should be good for her instead of creme cheese everytime... also I got a recipe where you roll a pc of fruit in yogurt and you dip with baby oat cereal so they can grab them easily... so will be trying that... i m interested to know what is the yogurt in in a tube? or in shaped bottle... i do almost everything home made... so would appreciate very much the recipe pls.

Mashi, you are right about the stress issue... i do stress about it... SO! I decided, for now at least, to alternate the mornings between me and nanny. she can give her the weetabix with yogurt and fruits 3 or 4 days a week and I can give her all type of finger dairy foods the rest of the week.

as for my insecurity about the whole matter.... well...lo takes very well finger food with me and is very playful at the same time, so i need to be creative about the food variety...maybe she thinks its play time or mummy = finger food, or i sneak food in her mouth and it annoys her... so i m stopping that!...maybe she does feel more secure with me to be independant! I love that idea ;)...but whatever reason, i will not take it personal, bc it doesnt help me in anyway... it just sabotage my confidence...

thank you ladies

ps: pls send me those home-made yougurt recipes... nothing is too complex for me. thanks a million

I like the idea of the fruit dipped in yoghurt and rolled in baby oats! That sounds great!

The tube yoghurt I was thinking of is called "go-gurt"... http://socialhoneycomb.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/gogurt.jpg

I can't find what the yoghurt drinks in the fruit shaped bottles are called, but I will find out.

We use a yoghurt maker: http://www.lakeland.co.uk/electric-yoghurt-maker/F/keyword/yoghurt+maker/product/3440_3441    Just put in 1L of UHT milk with a bit of unsweetened pain yoghurt and leave for about 10 hours! Let cool in fridge, then strain to desired consistency. It will be unsweetened, so we add some sugar and fruit.

thanks Kim! the gogurt looks great!
I ve tried the paste like yogurt today... spread on a sandwich! she didnt like it! although that particular brand (a turkish one) is quite mild and non acidic...maybe i should mix it with a very ripe banana... ...! or just get the gogurt and use it as spread?
havent tried the rolled oat fruits yet, I cant seem to find the baby oat! all the oats seem to need cooking with water or milk... how can I then roll it with the yogurt and fruit ! any ideas on that?
maybe I can replace it with wheat germ?...
thanks a lot for your ideas and help xxxx

I think that would be a great idea, mixing your yoghurt  with a very ripe banana! Much sweeter - I know I would prefer that! :D

How about this baby muesli to roll your yoghurt fruits in? http://www.boots.com/en/Cow-Gate-Babys-First-Muesli-200g_1104374/?CAWELAID=507301546&cm_mmc=Shopping%20Engines-_-Google%20Base-_---_-Cow%20%20Gate%20Babys%20First%20Muesli%20200g
