Separate for naps?
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:41:53 pm »
I have 15mo twins who have shared a room since birth but lately we have been having issues at naptime where if 1 wakes early I can't get him up without disturbing the other. When they sleep at grandparents they are in different rooms and always sleep well ::) I want to put them in different rooms at home but DH thinks we should keep them together, just wanted some opinions really??

TIA Niki x

Hi my 19 mo b/g twins sleep separately for naps and at night because DD was such an unsettled sleeper when she had reflux.  This has worked out fine for us, although I sometimes feel guilty about their lack of twin bonding time, I then think, well, they have the rest of the day for that and the break from each other is probably also nice for them.  My DD loves running into to find DS when she has woken up and they always have big smiles for each other.

Why does your DH want to keep them together? I would separate them if you have the room to do it since you already know that they sleep better that way.

I think if we did seperate it would be a long term thing, not a problem for me ;)

DH thinks that as we have got this far keeping them together we should carry on and it will probably get better but I think like you Jess, we know they sleep better apart so why not?? They are fine for nights so would keep them together then, it's just naptime. They would probably put up a fuss if put down seperatly at bedtime, they do love their bedtime chuckles together ;D

Thanks twinmum1 it's good to know your twinnies have coped being apart :)

Hey there!  My twins are almost 3.5 now (yikes!!!) and we recently separated them because one was disturbing the other.   I had a post here and was really struggling with it but it turns out it is the best thing we could have done for them.  They run and hug each other in the morning and actually play better together because they are rested!!!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hiya Niki,
Although they are twins - they still have different personalities. they also have different sleep temperaments. One may sleep better with a night light whereas the other does..one may love sleeping in 20 more minutes where the other one could be ready to start the day! I think having twins in separate rooms would be fine :) pp have said it well!

Mummy Victory ;D Managed to convince DH to give it a go today and my little monkeys proved mummy right, T slept 2.5hrs and F did 3 ;D Clever boys.

Thanks so much for everyones input, just 1 quick question, they sleep great together at nighttime so I want to keep it that way, do you think this will be ok? We don't have the option to seperate at night as 1 is napping in DS1's room but I don't want to get into the situation where they can't sleep together at nighttime because the nap seperately, does that make sense??

Way to go!!!!!!

Not that I can speak from experience obviously but I would think that it's fine to keep them together at night since they've been fine.

As long as they are fine I would just go with it :)
