What was your first finger food?
« on: August 11, 2010, 11:56:56 am »
Hi all

My DS is a few days short of 7months..  I was just wondering when I should start letting him have finger foods.
I have let him gum on a rice rusk a few times, but he has 2 lower teeth coming in and last time was sort of biting/breaking off chunks. He does grab the spoon in my hand at times so I think he is getting ready,

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as a good first finger food-?
I have looked at the FAQ, and there is a list of finger foods, just looking for suggestions on where to start.

Thanks~

maybe some plain rice/corn puffs because even when they break off they dissolve in an instant....

I think ours was mini rice cakes, oh, and a really tough crust/end of bread. It's OK if they break chunks off, that is how they start to learn to chew!

We did 'fingers' of roasted vegetables, fingers of toast, I would halve apples and soften them in the microwave (make sure they are cooled for AGES though!), anything that they can hold in their fists and suck or chew on is great.  Check out the baby led weaning thread for ideas

Ours was mini rice cakes but I quickly progressed to steamed veggies sticks (courgette and carrot mainly) and cheese cubes.

Our was technically rice puffs, but then he moved on to cheerios, little chunks of avacado and steamed yams, bit of banana and blueberry halves. He amazed us at how much he chewed with so little teeth!
