2hour night waking...why??
« on: August 18, 2010, 00:04:08 am »
Hi
My DS is 6months old has always been a chronic catnapper for the last 3 months at least.. I have been working with the ladies on the nap board to try to find a solution for this,he was in a severe UT/OT cycle which was fixed,but he is slipping back into it now but thats another story.
So the thing is yesterday his EASY was a little shaky,but over the day he managed to get 3hrs day sleep all up (1x50min nap first up, 1x 1hr45nap 2time and CN of 40mins or so,longer than normal but was trying too stop OT at BT). So he goes to bed just fine. Then at 2am wakesup happy as anything trying to sit up and talking etc...UNTIL he realised that we werent going to get him up to play. Then he went on and on until 4am! Then woke up at 5.45.(which is pretty normal with out EASY as it is at the moment..)
So I know usually they say if its a happy NW then A time must be too short. So I increased it by 10mins this morning and got a 35ish min nap,which I could not resettle.
So the thing is why are these NW occurring now?After months of STTN,I sometimes wish I hadnt mucked with his naps through the day as at least when he went to bed of an evening he was STTN no problem,and ever since we have been wokring on his DT sleep,nights have gotten prgressively worse,in fact, in about 3weeks I think there may have been 4nights where he has just STTN with no NW... So what is the thing I should try?
A "typical"EASY,if you can call it that as things have been everywhere looks something like this, (this was yesterday)
up for the day 6.20
E 6.20 solids @ 7am
A 2hrs40mins
S 9.00(put to bed 8.50,may have settled bit too quickly) slept for 50mins
up @ 10am
E 10.20 solids @ 11.30
A 2hrs20mins(had to go out so bit long??)
S 12.15pm slept for 1hr45min
E 2pm
A 1hr40mins
S 3.40pm CN 40mins
E solids @ 4.20
A 1hr  40mins
E bottle @ 5.30
S 5.45pm
Any help on these NW greatly appreciated, TIA.

thanks,thats what i thought too but i cant seem to get the A time right esp with his first nap to enable him to be up for 3 hrs,ive tried:
2hrs50=35min nap
2hrs45=35min nap
2hrs35=35min nap, used to get 2 hrs but it changed now?
2hrs30=45min nap? go figure!?!!
then once the first nap is out the whole day is out...its a vicious cycle...
then the NW on top grrr!!!

Thanks,he is so random,last night now slept for 12.5hrs!! maybe this is why he is a catnapper as he really prefers his long sleep at night? i havent been brave enough to try 3 hrs as I assumed 35mins meant OT,but sometimes he is happy as anything after 35mins so maybe its not that at all.. I might try it and see what happens!!
Have you heard of bubs that just ARE nappers? As I find sometimes the more sleep he has in the day the more NW I am getting??

Kym,
wondering how you're getting along now...I was always following what others gave you for advice as it seemed that our little guys sleep issues were very similar.  Ethan has begun to take better naps, although the NW is hit or miss but still getting slightly better.
Hope you're doing well!
Kim
