Waking Every 4 hours....
« on: August 30, 2010, 06:22:05 am »
Hi

Tyler is 9 months old and for the past week has been waking every 4 hours at night.  He naps well during the day and can self settling initially to go to sleep, he is also teething pretty bad.  Yesterday his EASY looked like this and he was up 10 initially but went back off himself, 11, 3 and then up for the day at 6.30.

6.30 Wake
7AM Bottle and play downstairs with daddy
8AM Breakfast
9.30AM Nap (yesterday it was for 2 hours, unheard of, normally just an hour)
11.30AM Wake and Activity
1.30PM Lunch and Bottle
2.30PM Nap
3.30PM Wake and Activity
5.30PM Dinner

6.30PM Bath, Bottle and bed.

It seemed ok, but dont know what i'm doing wrong.  He has pain meds before bed, If I cant get him to settle I do tend to feed him as he's not th ebest eater and not sure if it is genuine hunger for one of the NWs.

Please Help.

Has this been going on before the teething?

Well hon I would say it's definitely related to the teething. I know it's not a lot of fun but that's totally normal. Have you been giving any meds?

Hi

Yep, he has calpol just before his last bottle after his bath.  I was putting bonjela on his gums after the bottle but this has started to bother him so he wont settle afterwards.  I now do it when he wakes for the first time.
I have been feeding him when he wakes as he seems to need the comfort.  I can just see the two teeth breaking the gums so hopefully once he's over this I can start on weaning his night feed.  I did ask the Dr about giving him ibuprofen at the same time as calpol, but she said to leave it two hours between doses.

I don't know if it helps but our DD has is 8MO with the same problem & I'm sure it's because she isn't eating enough during the day and waking hungry @ night. It's a vicous cycle as to get her to eat more during the day I need to cut the feeds at night which is easier said than done!
