19 month old EW
« on: September 17, 2010, 01:54:54 am »
So out of the blue my Oliver is waking a full hour early.  This does not fit in our schedule well but besides that fact he wakes his sister up who does not nap anymore and needs every minute of sleep she can get (she's always sleepy, especially by the end of the week).

Normally I'd let him play in his crib until a reasonable time but since he's loud we tend to go get him, then he's up and there is no laying back down.

What could cause this?  He's been on the same schedule for a long time now.  Used to be he would sleep to 7 or 7:30 (we'd wake him before 8 for sure or his nap would be late).  Nap from about 11 to 2 (this can vary).  Bed between 7 and 8.

What is up with the EW?!  Its darker outside then before, and cooler, you'd think he'd sleep better.

Teeth can often be a trigger for EWs - has he got canines?

Sort of, they broke through but not all the way in.  I wonder if she's suddenly afraid of the dark or something?

something that jumps out at me is that his am A time is pretty short for his age. even if he is up at 7am, 4 hours is not much. Does he usually nap for 3 hours?
This def could be a factor i.e. a short A time and then a long nap. This can def cause EW's.
Is he particularly high sleep needs? I am wondering if he needs that nap pushing back a bit to more like 12pm?
What do you think?

;)  I think my DH who works 2nd shift and needs the toddler to sleep by 11 isn't going to like this...  ;)

He also doesn't like being woken so early -- since he's home late.  Looks like we're close to another transition time.  Bound to happen eventually.  I hadn't considered it yet mostly because if Oliver sleeps past 3 he won't go to bed on time.  So is this a matter of pushing the nap back and then limiting it? Or does he need a later bed time?  Uh ho, confused myself!
