Am I a bad mother? not sure where to put this question
« on: September 21, 2010, 07:27:31 am »
Hi,
First time mother, My DS is 6.5 months old and has been on easy since birth. He is an independent sleeper. Yesterday he had his shots (vaccinations) and he gets fever I know that before the previous vacc. I gave him paracetemol before bed time yesterday and this morning he woke up at 5 crying for like 10 minutes and continued sleeping then 1 hour later he screamed but it was not ascending he continued sleeping again after ten minutes. This is what he does some nights that is why I did not check on him. If he sees me I know there is no way he goes back to sleep he does better on his own. Then at 6.25 he screamed again this time it was worse and I considered he might have a fever and there I was right:( He was so hot I gave him a shower and decreased the temperature. But I feel sooooo guilty that I did not check on him before believing that he would have let me know if he had needed me. What is the limit? His cry was on and off and he could self-settled twice in spite of his temperature. Does he really let me know when he needs me or should I check him no matter what when he is sick?  The dilemma is he wont sleep when I am in although that is the key thing to recover. Please tell me the right thing to do I feel sooo bad and selfishh:(

No you are not a bad mother and I understand that you are feeling bad about the incident  :'(.  The fact that you are feeling like this shows that you are a loving and caring mother and you did the best you could once you realised what the problem was. Put this incident behind you and be the same great mother that you have been up to now  :D
