Help twins with lots of issues!!!
« on: October 10, 2010, 15:27:41 pm »
Hi really hope someone can help :O)

I am the auntie of two identical twin boys :O) almost 5mths old. My sis (mummy) is only 17years old and is suffering from post natal depression. She’s started tabs two days ago

The boys have spent a lot of time at different houses with everyone trying to help but in fact I think it’s made them worse.

They have no routine, both suffered from reflux although this has settled but maybe twin 1 has still got a little silent reflux, then again he could just be hungry or over tired. but he does like to be up right all the time

Up until last week we were giving the boys neocate ( very light pre-digested feed), with ranitidine and 2 scoops of carobel to 200mls. But we thought maybe twin 1 wasn’t satisfied enough and that was way he was awake so much.

twin1 fed has now been change to cow and gate milk for hungry babies and twin 2 is still on the same neogate feed.
Both boys are constipated and get lactolose to go to the loo, (bowels move once every 1-2 days), but sometimes they can go longer

I'll start with twin1 he has been sick (colds) twice in the last few months and has been mostly staying with Granny, he is used to being nursed over to sleep and would not sleep anywhere but in granny or mums arms!!!!!
When we put him into a cot even when he’s asleep in our arms, he would wake up yelling.  Now 'sometimes' he will settle when laid in his cot and a bottle propped in beside him.

Naps are all over the place and never the same any day; he wakens every two hrs at night and screams the house down if he does not get constant attention all the time during the day.
He always fights his sleep is over tried and never really finishes a bottle, but would drink water all day long.

So I have bought the content little baby book and mummy is determined that she is going to get them into a routine but she is so tried and stressed, I have been helping and have tried to follow the routine as best I can but the boys just seem over tired and are refusing to drink their bottles only taking about 4oz and screaming when we try to put the bottle in their mouth.

They haven’t slept the last 2 nights probably because they haven’t had enough feed but they are so over tried they are fighting with us refusing to take their bottles or settle.

Twin 2 is similar to twin 1 but twin2 will keep himself occupied for a while, he wakens 2 times at night and if you put his bottle back in he'll dose over, but he will not go to sleep on his own, he has to have a bottle propped in beside him and usually falls asleep before its finished meaning he is still not getting enough during the day, twin2 will also not sit up and fed normally he will refuse to suck and if u manage to get him sucking he'll on take 4oz as well.

Last night I took twin 1 up stairs to bed(7pm after bath) it was 4.5hrs since his last feed but every time I tried to but the bottle to his mouth he kept pulling away when I really tried to put it in his mouth he just yelled, so I settled him in my arms, then I thought if I lay him in his cot and propped the bottle in he may settle, but as soon as his head hit the pillow he screamed the place down. I tried reassuring him without lifting him out but he was crying so loudly he probably didn’t hear me, in no time at all he was choking and coughing as soon as I lifted him/ before he was properly in my arms he stopped cry, straight away I put him back into the cot as soon as his head hit the pillow he started again, I kept doing this until one of the times I put him in and the cry wasn’t just as bad (he was wrecked) I put the bottle in, he stopped crying and he fell asleep almost straight away , but this meant he only took 1oz before going to sleep. It was 10 before he woke again which meant at 1300hrs he had 6oz, 1930hrs 1oz and at 2200hrs 6oz,

Twin 1 went to sleep quite quickly last night  but again was sleeping before he finished his bottle and fed off and on for the first part of the night. Mummy tried to give them water in the later part of the night so they would be hungry in the morning (which they usually aren’t because they’ve fed so much at night). but instead they didn’t sleep most of the night and are so tired they still won’t feed that well in the morn
hope you can make a bit of sense from what I’ve written,

Please don’t use abbreviations I can’t figure them out at all :O(

and if any one has any words of wisdom please do pass them on also, we have all said we would chip together and maybe pay for a nanny for 2 weeks if we thought it would help, so if anyone know of any baby whisper in Northern Ireland send me their details!!!
