Im new with a question about formula feeding
« on: October 27, 2010, 02:10:41 am »
Hi, im Ashlee and have just had my first child 7 weeks ago. her name is chloe'. she is a reflux baby and is on zantac and baby gaviscon aswell as thickened formula. she is also lactose intolorent. poor lil darling. the doctors have put her on these things and i trust my doctor. chloe' is drinking about 140ml - 150ml in each bottle and has about 4 bottles a day.she was drinking 120ml and having 5 bottles a day bu now has increased in formula and her routein has changed. she has her last bottle around 6pm at night and she just screams through it. she takes afew mouthfulls and she just screams and screams. we have to comfort her to try and get her to drink that last bottle before her 8 hr sleep at night. i have tried changeing her routein of a day and it just doesnt work. she is fine with every other bottle through the day but that last bottle at night. has anyone experianced this before?? and what did you do to help get that bottle into them without the screaming and unsettledness? please help, thankyou all :)

Hi..
what time is she having the zantac..i wonder if by the bed time bottle it has worn off ?  has she been on the same dose of zantac since the start.if so it could be that her dose needs increasing as i believe zantac dosing is very weight sensitive...

I think macsmum is right about the Zantac and the dosing needing to increase as growth occurs.  My LO is on Zantac and is also 7 wks.  She takes 1/2 ml three times a day, but she has a pretty mild case of reflux.  She is also very fussy in the evenings.  I think when some babies are fussy or colicky, feedings help (as in my LO's case) and other times they seem to just aggrevate the fussiness further, which might be the case with your LO.

What weight is she and how much zantac is she having right now?

Can you post your day routine in terms of

E - what times, how much
A - how long for
S - what times, how long for.

thank you for all ur advice :) she is having 5 bottles a day. about 140-150 every bottle except for her last one for the night. she was on 12ml what wanted more after every feed so increasede it up abit and thats when she started refuseing that last bottle. she started to treat it as a top me up before bed. she is on 0.6ml of zantac which is what the doc has told us to do only twice a day. morning bottle at 8am and then evening bottle at about 8pm. maybe i should put it in the 8am and the 4pm?? insted of waiting 12 hrs? she has the reflux pretty bad but each day is different.
