NW in a 2.5 year old
« on: October 28, 2010, 08:32:48 am »
Hi Ladies,

It has been a while since I was on here. I had lots of help with dropping the paci - causing multiple NW, then wow DD started sleeping through. But now since she was 2, the NW have reappeared. She goes to sleep independently, has her 'piggy' comforter, doesn't have a nap every day - sometimes an hour after lunch, but if she doesn't go to sleep within an hour, I just get her up again. So she goes to bed with a consistent routine, bath, pJs, brush teeth, stories, sometimes plays up a little but goes to bed in her big girl bed. But wakes up screaming for mummy or just screaming and crying in the second half of the night usually around 3, 4 - can be three or four times. Sometimes she will say something - we have had "I don't want to be a fireman", so I do wonder whether some of it is night mares, but I try and give her time to talk about the day before she goes to bed, but not sure how to improve things.  I am exhausted as also have a 5 mo old, who is really a great sleeper - only waking once a night for a feed, but added with my older one - still feel exhausted!!
Any tips for sorting the DD out again much appreciated!

Do you do an early bedtime on no nap days?  Are the nights worse when she doesn't nap?

We generally stick to 7 - 7.30 bedtime, so if there has been a nap during the day. She will go straight to bed with no problems at all at 7. If she has had a nap, she will play around trying to get you to read more stories or want to play before she actually gets into bed, so sometimes on nap days she will sometimes not get to bed until 8! We looked at this to see if the no nap days made a difference, but there is no pattern at all. Some of the days with no naps, she will wake up only once and then days with naps she can wake up 3 times.
I did wonder whether she was overtired, but I just cant't find a pattern.

Have you tried consistently with no nap for a good few days and an earlier bedtime - say nearer 6.30pm?

Has she got all her teeth?

I have been wondering about teeth still has a few to go, but one thing we were going through is potty training, and poor thing got constipated and hurt when she was having a poo (sorry about the TMI), so would hold eveything in until night time and sometime I think she woke up to poo, but now that is getting sorted.
Have tried getting her ready for bed earlier, but usually still is around 7. Will try when the clocks go back to put her to bed at 6.30. Maybe that is one good thing about the time change LOL.

Potty training does seem to interfere a bit, so maybe she'll settle back down :-\
