Hi there,

I'm wondering if i'm leading to a bad habit for my DS.  He is 13 weeks old and weighs approx 17lbs.  He feeds well, and sleeps well from 7pm, with a df at 11pm, then straight to 6:45am/7am.  Although he is only 3mths, he moved to the 4hr EASY himself a few weeks ago and even at that, never looks for a bottle except the 7am bottle.  My query relates to his day time naps.

He tends to sleep 45mins to 1hr in his cot for 2 of his naps, then wide awake for about 20 mins, usually I put him in his buggy and take him walking where he sleeps again for another 30mins to 1 hr. So one way or another he usually gets 1 1/2 hrs nap twice a day and min of 45mins for his evening nap.  But I'm wondering is this okay or am I leading to a bad habit?  He is a very happy baby so I think it's not causing any problem. Should I be working on getting him to have his nap in one go or do you think it's okay to continue like this?

Thanks a lot

It's only a problem if you think it's a problem. If it doesn't bother you, then don't fix something that isn't broken. Since he's doing SO WELL at night, it doesn't seem to bother him either!

After I posted my initial query, I read up on several posts relating to similar types of queries and decided that I should try aim for a longer nap on his own in his cot. Whilst reading some of the other posts I felt that my guy is probably over stimulated, not necessarily over tired. He is very aware, loves looking around and laughing, so he "does" quite a lot in his activity time and I wanted to see if he would benefit from a longer wind down.

So this morning, he had his bottlle at 7am (but I first heard him at 6:40am) took him downstairs to his bouncer, but I removed one of the 3 hanging toys immediately.  He sat their happily enjoying himself, gradually I removed all the toys to let him sit more quietly as part of his wind down.  By 8:10 am he was looking tired, not yawning but definitely getting there.  Nappy change and back up to his room, for some more wind down, couple of songs, then came the yawns and he was asleep by 8:20am, it's now after 10am, and he's still asleep.  His next activity time is usually more active as he spends time on his tummy and playgym, but I'm gonig to increase his wind down time and see how that goes.
